Whoah! My condolences.

I guess still cheaper to repair rather than buy a new one. Still though its a hard blow. Be sure that they check everything else to ensure that there is at least 2 or 3 years more of good use. No point repairing or replacing a part when another will break down soon. Good luck!

yup. should be alright..

if i never try my grip i wouldnt know the board faulty also, because it was working as per normal.

This afternoon I picked up my lazy a.ss and took the 5D out for spin with the 135L. Shot my niece and visited Kampong Buangkok. Fell in love with my 5D all over again. Guess this baby will stay on for some time. 旧爱还是最美. Apologies to those who were interested in my gear. LOL.

Wow! You have 3 5 D's!!!! If you sold all 3 of them, you could afford to get a brand new 5D MkII.

Hi guys, I will like to start a discussion here without starting a new thread.

If you can only have 1 lens on your 5D, which will it be and why? :)

There are many lenses that I would like on my 5D. Certainly my 100 f/2.8 macro is great for portraits, macros and bokeh. My 70-200 f/4 provides great looking IQ and bokeh with higher reach. There are many other lenses that go well with the 5D, but if I had to choose only one, it would be the standard 24-105 f/4 for walk-around and general purposes.

If it were me I'd take the 28-300 L cos of range, quality and IS.

I havent tried the 35L but if I were to have one lens I will go with the gamble and bet on this one!

Difficult question. When I was using 5D, at my own leisurely pace, my favorite lens was my OM 35-70f3.6 that gave me consistently beautiful portraits at the long end and very crisp and sharp lanscape shots at the wide end. But if n when I needed AF, I would rely on my trusted old Tokina 28-70f2.6-2.8, cheap and good. I would like to add that the 5D is such a versatile camera that I had manual lenses from 24mm up to 200 in every known or popular focal length, like, 24, 28, 35, 50, 85, 100, 135, 200. Also I had 3 28s, 3 35s, 4 50s. To me it was the best camera the world has to offer for a manual focus lens freak like me. If Canon can upgrade this camera with just an up-to-date sensor, firmware and LCD, that will be all I need for the next 10 years, and I bet for many thousands more.

I think for me, the 35L seems to be a good option as a 1 lens setup. It is reasonably wide, yet can be used to do portraits. It is so good that many of the shots taken outdoor requires no PP at all. Indoor, I will still need a flashgun, even with it's f1.4 aperture.

I thought many will choose the 24-105, but seems like I am wrong  I think the 24-105 is great too. I once tried a 24-70 on my 5D, and it look so unbalanced on my 5D :bsmilie: That alone made me shun this lens.

I hope I can handle MF lenses as good as Anthony, but at this point, still unable to. There are many nice MF gems out there at very reasonable prices.

Manual focus lenses are not for everybody and also not for every occassion. I love them because of their precision in focusing. The focus throw is normally much longer in such a lens, so understanding each and every lens characteristic is a must, like which focus position is a more accurrate when you start focusing the lens from infinity or from mfd. Most of such lenses are from the film SLR era and they have special characters or faults that make them more interesting. To me, today's lenses are too clinical, very well corrected that most of them will render quite similarly, even across different brands. So, if you are like me, with nothing else to do than just photography, then you will understand and appreciate the precision of an mf lens.

I just started using MF lens. I am currently using the Zeiss ZF 25mm Biogo T*. Very great image quality but I find it alittle hard to focus in the dark. Did you change the focusing screen Anthony? I will like to learn more about manual focusing from you. Thanks.

Hi Desmond,

I have written many times about how blessed Canon DSLR users are as Canon provides an optional type E_S super precision matte focusing screen that aids you in manual focusing. Refer to my posts on this subject and there is one on top of this page now. If you need further advises, you can always send me a PM.
