After 4 months, I still miss my 5D. There are some rumours that there may be a 5D3 only for stills or perhaps a new 3D. I will be waiting patiently and anxiously for the new coming and hope it will be a remake of this old venerable. Please continue to keep this thread going as I still love to hear from you people, especially the photos. Cheers.

Sorry if i missed out anything bro, but what happened to yr 5D?

Yes, I'm curious too. I bought my 7D at John 3:16 about 2 years ago and nearly a year later I bought a used 5D classic. I intended it to be my 2nd camera.... I never thought this would happen but ever since I bought the 5D, I use it 95% of the time! I really like both cameras, but the 5D just seems to have that extra mystic about it.... of course the IQ is phenomenal.... hence its classic cult status. I don't know what I would do without it.

What gives Anthony?

Went to CSC today to send in my grip.

wanted to change the focus screen, didn't realize they don't sell it. Must by then bring give them fix. lol in the end i just change my hotshoe to the new silver one and replace weather sealing on one of my lens.

probably buy the focus screen weekend then when my grip is fixed bring down at the same time to install it.

How much do they charge to change the hotshoe to the new silver model? I am thinking of getting that done.

I was traveling in Canada last week from Toronto to Ottawa and noticed this interesting road sign:

Another (newer) road sign had Singapore a little closer but still over 15,000 kms! I know that its hard to see, but its the top one on the left side.

Both images were taken with the 5D classic.

Hi radio and Snoweagle,

I sold my 5D ( shutter count 10525) 4 months ago. It was in almost brand new condition, both externally and internally. All these years, I use only alternate lenses on both my Canon bodies, mostly manual focus lenses as I could not live with the color rendition of a Canon lens on Canon body. Since then I have switched to a Pentax K5. Though the the color, off-camera, is somewhat closer to what I like, the overall package is a far cry from Canon's. I am now forced to learn CS5 as Pentax's support in this area is completely useless. On hindsight, learning CS5 has broaden my understanding on PP and what I can do with a digital file. So, I will definitely come back to Canon when the next 5d3 or 3D is out.

Anthony,

I agree that CS5 is a great post-processing tool. I have CS4, Lightroom 3 and PhotoShop Elements 8. The one I tend to use more is PSE 8. I find the user interface with PSE 8 much easier to learn and understand. I do tend to process my RAW files in Lightroom 3 since it is a really good RAW processor. There is something in Lightroom 3 that I have not found in PSE 8.... it tends to provide each photo which something special that is not possible with PSE 8.... it's hard to explain.... something like the mystic of the 5D. So for the most important photos, I will use Lightroom 3 to process my RAW files and then PSE 8 if I need to change anything else that cannot be done in LR3.

CS4 is one that I hardly use.... not because it is deficient, but because I have not had the time to sit down and learn the interface. I am sure that it is very good and one of these days I must learn it. But for the time being, PSE8 and LR3 are my main PP tools.

I've heard the same rumour that you've heard regarding the 5D3 and 3D. Regardless, of what is eventually launched, I just hope that it will be launched in September. It's been a long wait for the successor to the 5D2. Although the 5D2 is a very good camera, as is the 5D classic, I think that the market is more than ready for a new camera. With the pent up demand that I am sure exists, this upgrade(s) will be a sure success. I look forward to the challenge of a new camera.

I am competent only in bridge, camera raw and photoshop, all part and parcel of CS5. Currently, I think I am only using about 2% the power of CS5 and will learn it slowly. I like the particular rumour of the possibility of a FF camera for stills only. I hope it's the 3D and a direct upgrade to the 5D Classic. Many diehards will love this and I have never used video, even on my new Pentax K5.

The previous time earlier this year I sent in my 5D for general cleaning including sensor and focusing screen but in the end I found that the changed the focusing screen instead. Cost for the screen is $11 but at least I got a brand new one.

Now the screen has some dust spots again.

May I ask how you are learning CS5? I am getting on in age and I don't have the capacity for learning that I once had. Also time and commitments are high. The way I learned PS8 is by buying the "Adobe Classroom in a Book" and going through each of the chapters. It was well laid out but it was quite an investment of time. I know that Adobe has published that same kind of book for CS5 but I'm not sure that I would be able to go through it again. Do you have a different way?

How is it possible that the dust spots come on the focus screen so quickly and easily.... is it from changing lenses?

I also noticed some dust spots on the focusing screen of my 5D but I've just left them there under the assumption that photos will not be affected.... is my assumption correct?

I did that becos i wanted to have a clean screen before i head for my China trip then and during the trip, the focusing screen inherited some dust spots again. Changing lenses may contribute to the cause but during the trip i primarily use my 12-24 around 90% of the time.

Yes photos will not be affected as it's only on the focusing screen but spots which are too many and too big will become an irritant.

I am 65 and I find learning CS5 very difficult. That's why I only use 3 chapters of CS5, 'bridge' to manage my files, 'camera raw' to process my raw files and 'photoshop' to crop and resize my jpec files. Even within these 3 chapters, I use only the important areas which an old layman like me understands. Daily usage and practice and understanding certain terminologies and icons have helped me learn so much faster day by day. Before CS5, I had a one month trial on LR3.3, which was much easier but more expensive to buy so I decided on a student's copy of CS5 instead. As a retired man I have all the time in the world anyway. When I was using Canon, I depended solely on Canon's DPP which was more than sufficient. With Pentax, I have no choice as the Pentax utility is just hopeless. This is one of the many limitation I have to face when I switched from the comfort of using Canon. But it may be a blessing in disguise, so I have to live with it until the 5D3 or 3D comes along.

My 5D has been idling in the dry cab for about half a year already. Recent trips I had used the iPhone and my compact Sigma DP2s. I am wondering is it because I am older and more sensitive to weight now. LOL.
I may be selling it (and the 3 L lenses) and moving onto the Pana GF3 as they announced the Leica 25mm f/1.4 lens too. BIG SIGH...

Which three "L's" do you have? Let us know in advance if you intend to sell. Some of us may be interested! :D
