Offering Photography Service for Wedding for Portfolio Purposes

Anyone getting married or knows anyone getting married??? I want to offer to take photo for you to add to my portfolio. It will be free, just so I can add to my portfolio. Its either actual day or pre-wedding shoot. If you want studio shoot, you will have to pay rental of studio.

I'M NOT ASKING TO BE THE MAIN PHOTOGRAPHER, SO PLEASE STILL GET YOURSELF A MAIN PHOTOGRAPHER! I REFUSE TO BE THE MAIN PHOTOGRAPHER AND BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PHOTOS ON YOUR WEDDING THEN I'M NOT BEING PAID FOR IT!

I am just a supporting photographer, so you dont have to pay me, after I edit I will pass you a dvd in return

we all complaining about cheapo photographers and really cheapo clients...

in the end we all want to earn something out of our passion.. i'm trying to improve my portfolio yes but i'm also giving chance to other photographers to earn I'M NOT SPOILING MARKET FOR THEM!

thats why on my ad it says i'm not going to be the head photographer and not get paid the right amount for it

Wah, you are giving chance to other photographers, thanx for giving chance ah, if not all will die ah! Or people give you chance to shoot?

Donno who said you snobbish, but whoever he is, I agree with him.

Second shooting don't work like this, second photographer report to the primary, works for him and listen to his instructions.

A free reign 'second' photographer, like what you are trying to be, is shooting for himself, thus more often than not, competes for angles, competes for position, repeats the same shots, get into shots, had personal agenda and creates a conflict of interest. Established wedding photogs and discerning clients avoid these like plague. Sometimes called uncle bobs.

Ethics is another issue, without the stress of being responsible for the whole wedding coverage, the 'portfolio' is obtained in a discounted way. Its just like a guest a wedding shooting has no stress nor responsibility.

I suggest you don't be so arrogant when you are asking people for favor. Hope this helps.

My main purpose is to build MY portfolio... i'm not a second photographer... if i'm a second photographer i think i should be paid! (by the main photographer)

i'm there to shoot plain and simple. yes, you can say i'm an uncle bob. but i need to be an uncle bob coz i dont get enough events, nor do i know much people getting married so i need to tag along on what event i could find thats why i posted this ad.

if i dont have any events to go to then i cant build my portfolio right??? duh???

at least i'm not like the other people who undercharge and spoil market. so you rather i also undercharge and charge $50 then say i'm building portfolio??? in

i know my responsibility as a "tag along" photographer... i didnt just buy a camera yesterday

i know the photographer and the videographer is there to their job and i should be clear of their angles...

and even if there are repeats of the same shots it doesnt really matter, understand this JasonB, THIS IS FOR MY PORTFOLIO! THESE WILL BE MY PICTURES.

its the same concept as, when you go for a model shoot with a dozen other photographers... you are tagging on the opportunity that there is a model

I hope i am not adding to the confusion. I believe red eye is just asking for permission to shoot at someone wedding to gain experience. Instead of tagging along with a pro which he may have problem securing.

He entice the couple by offering a DVD of the shots he takes. I am not sure if this spoilt the photographer market as his works may turn out 'better' than the hired

Well, I don't have a solution but do remember the couple could have a friend taking photo besides engaging a pro too. So just need to balance and work together.

Actually there have been some kind folks that offered and gave me permission to tag along, they are not as narrow minded as you...

i dont know if you are a hobbyist or a pro... if you're a pro i wonder how you charge your clients i hope you are not one of the $50 kind...

who would professional photographer have... a so called pro that spoil market for them or someone who is willing to get in to the market and challenge them but charge same market price... at least it becomes a competitive market in terms of work rather than price..


if they are good they shouldnt worry about competitive market... they should worry about $50 people

what i initially wanted is for the couple to give the permission rather than the photographer, i know it would be harder to get the permission of the photographer, but surprisingly so far i've only had photographers allowing me to join the event

i'm not asking to do this forever, like i said this is for portfolio, eventually i would have enough portfolio material to start on my own

well, in terms of having better picture than the actual photographer... i'm sure one way or the other i may come up with a few better picture than the pro photographer... but even the pro photographer with years of experience sometimes get bested by someone with a point and shoot, as they say "lucky shot"

thats why photography is a learning skill, we always learn something new... if you think you are perfect then what you got to worry about? that means even the pro sometimes need to "improve" no one is perfect

i'm there to simply build portfolio thats all

yes i give chance to other photographers... those want to earn real money... those who make a living with photography... and those upset with the $50 photographers... i guess maybe you are one of the $50 people so you dun really care about the money

You are offering a services to wedding couples, even tho is free, you should post at photography services directory, not services wanted section, since you are not getting wedding and look for photographers.

anyway, just to let you know you need to rephrase you offer and terms.

put yourself in a wedding photographer's shoes, do any wedding photographers want a photographer show up in a wedding event for shooting and building his portfolio? and this photographer is not under wedding photographers' supervision or the wedding couples?

and put yourself in a wedding couples' shoes, do any wedding couple already hired a photographers, still want to engage you for free services? it could jeopardise the wedding shoot due to coordinating with the main photographer, why would wedding couple take such a risk especially they already paid someone capable and responsible of their wedding photos?

think about it carefully, there are many ways to skin a cat, go around offering free services is definitely not a best and only way to build a portfolio.
