Just a quick question. How often do O rings need to be greased? Can regular silicon grease be used?? Or do I need a special lubricant?

Thanks chaps!

Most o-rings are either silicone or nitrile o-rings. You need different grease for each of them. Using grease meant for nitrile o-rings on silicone ones might cause it to become brittle or cause it to change chemically. To be absolutely safe use the manufacturers recommended grease.

Most o-rings for u/w housings are silicone based except for the black ones used by ikelite which is likely to be nitrile. Other o-rings like the one usually used for torches are usually nitrile o-rings.

Die..... using ikelite grease on Canon / Inon yellow 'O' Ring.....

Nothing exactly wrong. only heard that o-rings might stretch more easily or become brittle faster if wrong grease is used. :dunno:

Again -

So, what colour is your 'O' Ring.... and is your casing from Ikelite ??

You can buy Silicon Grease from Scuba Shop or shops dealing with U/W photography gears (ScubaCam being one of them). Btw.... don't get over worked-up by this Silicon or Nitrile 'O' Ring thingy..... like howeikwok said -

For the fuji o rings, use the fuji grease, and if you need more, sea & sea's o ring grease (yellow tube) can be used.. have been using it for a year without any issues.

AS for sil or nitrile, beats me~ :dunno:
