Not absolutely necessary, but it certainly helps! If English is your preference, talk to the young chap by the name of Xiao Bo, who is most helpful, but who quite rightly, I feel, doesn't tolerate bossy, know-it-all types trying to fake their knowledge of prices OR photography-related facts, all with the intention of bullying him into a discount price.

My first visit some time ago was without purchase, but I was treated with far, far better consideration and cordiality than in most other shops locally ... EVEN when I returned a second time. It was on the second visit that I purchased a Sigma 30mm/1.4 and several hundred dollars worth of other goodies! OP is highly recommended, in my book.

Yes yes.. their retail and service attitude is The Standard many or ALL of our local retailers LACK! Not only lack ah... I think don't even have ah!

If all at once there's a sudden influx of China retail businesses come here and setup shops, these local slackers are going down in flames....

I've been reading this thread with interest and have visited Orient Photo.

The customer service is the same like the local businesess where once a caucasian customer enters the shop, the local customers are invisible. This is my experience when I visited the store recently.:thumbsd:

Not surprise, consider this also happens at shop likes John 3:16.

:( This is sad...

I have been in sales line over a decade ago, and I tell you, those whites don't and can't really afford to buy much... I get more sales from the hard to handle Indians than them...!

I say about 3-4 ouf 10 ang moh, will/can spend substantially. But just ONE indian can make my one day's sales!

Where I worked back then, we don't "carry" whites like the way shops are doing these days.. everyone regardless of nationality or skin color, gets the same standard of service and attention. Sad to say things have rotted so much in retail sales... :(

They put on the 'Hootya W100 White Filter' and can't see anything else with coloured skin mah :)

I agree with you about ang mohs... the big spenders are usually spending on corporate account and obviously he's getting them for his own use. The ones buying on his/her own money will still bargain, some worse than locals.

Aiya.. so sian today.. feel like dropping by Haw Par Villa and exposing my CCD...

Seriously, OP is under staffed. Try avoid going there where there is a crowd. If there is a crowd, don't bother entering, unless you plan to play with an item for a VERY long time. If no crowd, no problems. Caught Lynn surfing EastGear's site.

I strongly recommend their B+W stuff.

I checked out the shop recently to test their service. 1 lady (i suppose is lynn?) was serving a customer. 2 man were sitting at the end of the shop, chatting loudly. I was the only other customer in there, and no one came to serve me. In the end i had to wait till the first customer went off (about 20-30mins later) before that Lady came to serve me.
How come? Because they see me small boy, cant be bothered with me?

Alternatively, you can always approach them. Don't have to wait for them to come to you.

It depends on whether the 2 men are working there. Minimum is I think the lady should tell you that she is busy, and ask you to wait a while. If she has not done that, then forget about the shop.

Actually, I like it that way, rather than sales people following you around the shop.

same here...hate it when the sales person follows me around, hovers behind me and "waits" on me....love the freedom to browse wherever i want to and as much as i want to....and hey if i need the service I just have to ask..! :)

Been a couple of times I went to OP and they gave me what I wanted to buy to try it out and don't disturb me until I'm happy with the product, then I approach Lynn or someone else.
