went to them on friday, got a Sigma 30 f/1.4. allowed me to test 2 different copies, and was pretty helpful!

got the lens, a HOYA HMC filter and a martin strap for my camera. very good price and service i must say!

Yah...this kind of customer hospitality is VERY RARE in Singapore...

I think if more China retailers come and setup shops here, our local retailers will be in trouble... they won't be able to match up with their service attitude.. they're almost like Japanese standard!!!

Local retailers; WATCH OUT!

I was quoted $580 for a grey Sigma 17-70 while MS offered me $599 with UV filter for a local set. I'd rather pay the $19 more for a set the local agent would service under warranty. I don't think I want to wait weeks for OP to ship it back to PRC should it ever need servicing.

Some of their Lowepro stuff (eg. go observe their version of lens case LC-3) is significantly different from whats sold locally, lets just say it doesn't seem like the usual Lowepro standard. Also the 'funny LC-3' cost a few $ more than at MS or CP.

OP is good for importing cheaper photography accessories from PRC and I feel they should concentrate on those instead of selling grey imports.

Hmmm.. yes, I know some of their stuff there 'smells' different...
but I would know what are the things that I can accept to 'smell' slightly different.

But yes, the idea of waiting weeks for something to be sent back to PRC for service doesn't sound very appealing...

Anyway, they have some good accessories... maybe buy cheap lenses not so worrisome...

For minor stuff that is unlikely to ever need warranty servicing I don't mind getting from OP if their price is right. Their Kenko filters are well priced enough to give local Hoya/Kenko importers a good run for the money.

Electronic items, lenses... I'd rather pay a little bit more for peace of mind.

My friend bought the EF70-200f4L IS @ $1600 nett with a UV02xx code.. this is barely a month old from the oven (She bought in late march)... That is too tempting to resist... I will still take the chance for that offer :bsmilie:

I was told that Cathay Photo is selling that for $1,650. :dunno: If it's true, then it is only $50 more.

Please help to update the thread in the Canon forum and keep all informed then. Thought all Canon lenses come with international warranty, no? Or is there some receipt-related trick involved?

Are you 100% sure that they send their stuff back to PRC for repair/resurrection etc!?? I hear they issue you a brand new piece immediately if the complaint is genuine and then sort out the repair etc in their own way which does not matter since the complaint is resolved anyway! :D That is the way their shop warranty system works...and it works well too from what i hear from a few people who bought.

Well...lots has been said in the earlier OP thread already...and really good stuff...including now in this thread too. So I would say this shop is worthy of our consistent patronage...as for me i would see it as a win-win, i get the items i need at much lower prices (most items that is) and they treat me like a king each time I am there irrespective whether i buy or not (whereas I get really roughed up at the other more "famous" big name shops...no respect for the buyers man!!)...so yes the choice is ours really...I would gladly even pay the same if need be but shop at OP (the grey thingee does not bother me really for items upto $1.5K)

TS - they even respond within 1-2hrs to email...i actually got a few quotes from them via email...fast and very efficient...their contact details are as (cut paste from their email to me):

This shop gets my 10/10 rating so far...just so enjoyable being there and only browsing too. Cheers.

How do you know it 'works well' when OP has been around for less than half a year? Care to share those experiences?

so in short do ur homework before going down and purchase
some item is cheaper than else whr but some other look fishy
only get nikon NC77 filter there at $98...cheapest I can find :)

Vsonic - wrong conclusion as I never did state that I "know" it works well but said that I "hear" that it works well...was chatting with a few fellow CS'ers in earlier threads who had mentioned their feedback to me as some of us were planning to do a collective buy from OP on a few lenses. However it was affirmatively mentioned in this thread that they send their lenses back to PRC & that we have to wait until they return etc etc...that is where I had a different opionion in my discussions with them on the shop warrranty and wanted to share that different point of view that you may not really have to wait. I may be wrong, so it might be best to discuss with them on this aspect.

Anyways...their newness does not bother me, in fact their service attitude and customer orientation delights me...so as for me I am willing to always give them a shot. Nothing in life is 100% guaranteed after all and without trial & adventure there is no real discovery! :D

Cheers mate.

So now you're saying you don't know. :bsmilie:

clearly you need an english language 101!! end of discussion (from my end at least) until you produce a english proficiency cert!! :D

Thats ok, just throw the usual red herring and scoot away while you can. Fact remains, you have no concrete proof to back what you said.

All shop lenses are sold as grey sets. They have a 10 day one-to-one replacement offer on defective lenses. After the 10 day period, the lenses will ship back to China for repair , and this will take a 'few weeks'

I was told slightly negotiable if paying cash or nets!? :) (but yes, they do include GST)

....Must I brush up on my Mandarin before visiting OP??

Not absolutely necessary, but it certainly helps! If English is your preference, talk to the young chap by the name of Xiao Bo, who is most helpful, but who quite rightly, I feel, doesn't tolerate bossy, know-it-all types trying to fake their knowledge of prices OR photography-related facts, all with the intention of bullying him into a discount price.

My first visit some time ago was without purchase, but I was treated with far, far better consideration and cordiality than in most other shops locally ... EVEN when I returned a second time. It was on the second visit that I purchased a Sigma 30mm/1.4 and several hundred dollars worth of other goodies! OP is highly recommended, in my book.

Ditto for me too mate. first visit bought only a cleaning kit worth $16! :embrass:

Even then this young gent there treated me like royalty...in fact even taking time to advise me not to buy cleaning kit items separately but rummaged in the shop for a matlin cleaning kit that contained most of the things i was buying separately...all the while i could see customers strolling in but even then he did not leave me until I was fully serviced (wow...imagining some of those other customers might be waiting to buy 10X or 100X of what I had bought)...i was totally swayed by their services, easy going & warm welcoming attitude. Thereon it's my first port of call now for anything I need in photography!

yup....uppppzzzzzzzzzz for OP without any hesitation!
