NSC experience... on 24-70/2.8

my colleague sent in a compact to canon recently and was told it was not economical to service. instead csc offered a good trade in price for a new cam. initially i dont believe it so i cautioned him to check actual retail pricing with reputable shops before accepting and it turned out it was indeed cheaper by close to a 100 for a 600 plus compact, almost 15% off actual retail.

This one not the Canon Privileged Purchase Program meh?

Oic. Oic. Indeed. I'm quite surprise... Thumbs up for nsc.

actually I did Google "I dropped my 24-70 lens"... apparently some folks in the states were also receiving the same offer as me... nikon usa offer him a replacement for 1/5 of the retail price.

come to think about it, this is really a nice gesture!

I didn't know we could try out lenses in NSC. today I lay my finger on the 14-24/2.8... impressive!!

waiting to sell my shares to feed the bbb devil! :-)

I always did whenever I'm at NSC ;p Nice guy there keep asking me to try this and that, probably trying to poison me hahaha.... :bsmilie:

Glad to hear that you've got a new lens for 'not too much' pain to the wallet :)
Quite a nice gesture to offer this trade-in service :)

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna stick to nikon lens for a while :-)

heard that some 3rd party lens makers are not giving good customer service.... any encounters or field report?

I sold off my 'built-like-a-tank' 3rd party lens, which was working perfectly from first day till selling day... :) So my answer is N/A since never had to deal with their customer service.
But the fact is that good customer service (and the things that have to be in place for this to happen) often cost $$$.
You do get what you pay for. So ultimately it's buyers' choice! :)

Carl Zeiss don't give good customer service ar? aiyoh.

yes, TS's lens is within warranty, but he had also said that NSC will still give the offer for out-of-warranty lenses

... did he? I think there is a big difference between "will" and "may"...

I ask the CS before I leave ... if my lens was 3yrs old and same situation, would they also offer me the same deal?? she say yes ... but who knows, unless someone willing to do a drop test :D :D

He dropped, you pay?

thanks for the clarification. so according to NSC they will still honor that deal for out-of-warranty lenses...

moot point actually, since warranty does not cover accidental dropping. so even within warranty, if you had them fix the lens instead of buying with the offer, you'd still have to pay for the parts and labor cost, right? then it's quite fair to offer the same to both with and without warranty lenses.

I have been to NSC for about 10 times and never did any guy (nice or not nice) ask me to try any lens....... Sit around there, walk here and there, molest the camera bodies, look and stare at the lens cabinet for a long time but not once did the guy at the counter said or move a muscle.

while we're at NSC feedback...

my d700 is a USA set. the rubber grips were peeling(43k shutter count, heh) and pissing me the hell off so I decided to send the camera in to replace the parts. quote was sgd87.75 for 4 pc rubber grip change. thought it was a little on the high side, but went ahead with it anyway. was done within the hour, and my sensor and viewfinder were cleaned too. did not know about NSC offering lenses out for testing or i'd love to try the more exotic lenses like the 500mm

oh ya, the hot chocolate at the coffee machine was pretty damn good.
