NS

While many feel NS is a waste of time and country's resources, it is still a necessary option to protect the interest of the nation.

Having some soldiers to defend is better than none when the time calls for it during a riot or a crisis.

Honestly, war is no longer the same. It's all tactical and electronics. Look around you... there is no soldier or policeman patrolling singapore by foot. The fact is, the preparation is already done and its all pending activation.

Singapore is always ready operationally and each camp/unit are evaluated by random activation. But if an atomic bomb strikes, we dont need to prepare either as it will just wipe us out in a few hours.

So, count our blessings when we wake up each day to see sunshine.

Then we'll just need to spend more and buy Patriot missile interceptors.

Technically, the patriot system (or any land to air missile system) can perform its role to intercept. But realistically, it is still not full proof.

Look at 911. There was no fighter jets, no missile and not even a bullet involved. It just used a passenger plane to land the bomb.

We are on an island and surrounded by lands much bigger than our tiny red dot. We are extremely vulnerable, but that pressure us to be all the more vigilant.

what is ns? can eat?

heng as of now girls still dont need to do ns :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

U have to change your mindset. U need guys to fight the war unless you volunteer.

Can you imagine if we have no arm forces what will become of us?

It is necessary and it does it purpose.. if atomic bombs are use in this modern warfare you can assure this work.. M A D

Of course, we all play our part in the vigilance. Tomorrow, I have guard duty......

Nope...

Not when I'm wasting 2 years of the prime of my youth doing slave labour almost 24/7 with few hundred dollars wage.

Here's a song i sung with my buddies almost daily while in Tekong:

Training to be soldiers

Training to be soldiers, fight for our land
Once in a life, 2 yrs of our time
Hve you ever wondered, why must we serve?
Becos we love our land and we want it to be free to be free ya!

Looking all around us, people everywhere
Children having fun, while we are holding guns
Have you ever wondered, why must we serve?
Becos we got no choice so we LL have to serve have to serve.

Pretty much sums up NS. :bsmilie:

NS can't be eaten, but NS can ensure us not to be eaten by others.

If our country is overrun by others, lady like you will be the first to suffer, you know what i mean. :)

No one love to be conscripted in the army, we do it because we wanted to protect what we cherish. For girl like you that don't need to be conscript, you might also want to play a part by just giving moral support to your surronding guys friends, than just mocking them. :thumbsd:

As a friend to you, hopefully you will able to see things in a bigger picture in life, and make every details touches your heart. :)

hehe i was just kidding la :)

You wouldn't, you will about to see the world in different perspective, it will be a great help in your future.

There are always two option, enjoy and learn something useful out of it, or suffer and telling yourself is the waste of time.

NS is actually very simple, just train and enjoy your friends accompany, and those friends will be your friends for life.

Wait till you step out and work in the corporate world, when you need to on-guard everyday and those beside are not really your buddies.

:) Enjoy your stay in June, i actually miss the days during my tour of duty, feeling young and carefree.

honestly, i feel that NS is an important part of male's life in singapore. It really moulds their character (well, most of them... i wont say it's everyone) and make them a better person.

I saw a handful of friends who went through it and seriously, i think their characters are so much better after the NS experience..

then again nowadays got a lot of NS deaths, hence the army seems more lenient now... maybe the transformation wont be that great cus hardship is not experienced as much as those soldiers in the past.
