Hi there,

Can anyone recommend me a place to have my Tamron lens serviced and cleaned cos of a bit of fungus, I sent it back to Tamron and they advised me that it costs about $400 to send it back to Japan for servicing and calibration, I wonder if there's any shop in Singapore which can do this just as well?

Thanks all.

Regards,

Nick

Here's some spoonfeeding:

1. Click on the "search" box in the top right
2. type in: where to clean lens fungus
3. Click "go"
4. Read the many many many threads that basically asked the same thing you are asking. I've pasted a sample below. congratulations, you just added another thread to a repeated topic. That is why you should SEARCH before you post.

Do you use any dry box or dry cabinet currently?

anyway, cleaning of fungus won't cost that much, what lens is that btw? it could be having other issue as well, do you ask why cost $400 specifically.

It could be that the fungus is located in "sealed" elements.
Nowadays it is common for some lenses to have groups of elements molded in plastic.
Service center will replace the whole group if fungus is located inside sealed element.

other fix that can be done by 3rd party repair is to use parts from scrap lens, or split up the elements to access the infected part. The splitting method is a bit risky but it works.

i sent my lens for cleaning at tamron just 2 months ago and it cost $80. if they tell you that it cost $400, it probably means your "a bit of fungus" is located inside and not on the outside like mine. They don't charge according to the size of the fungus. It's more of where the fungus is located and how difficult it is to clean.

usually i send to service centre for cleaning or checks,
i dont trust individuals to service you (part timers), if things goes wrong then no shop or warranty to chase on...
