Depends on where you visit.
Inside arctic circle, can aways negative celcius.

I refer to the Malangen Brygger (your photos #12-#14). Look very nice and considering to book there too. :)

Was stayed at Luxury Fisherman Cottage.
It has 3 bedrooms.
Ya, very nice there, but just fyi, Malangen Brygger not near to tromso city.

Thanks for the info. As we will be driving there so think should not be a problem if we stay out of city.
BTW, your photos are nice, please keep sharing more, pls...
any tips to give for the hunting Aurora?

You're welcome.
Sure. Hmm....Chance to see Aurora is really by luck....hahaha...
The peak hours around 10pm-2am. The sky must be very clear and staying away from light pollution.

you can check this Aurora Forecast.

See aurora is not entirely luck... It boils down to mix of getting solar wind due to flare from the sun and the cloud conditions in the area you are in.

Even then, there is always a very high chance of seeing it as it's solar max this winter season. Go spaceweather.com and that would let you know when there was a flare.

If you check their aurora gallery, you will find that it has been spotted whole year round, only at different locations due to the latitude, at different timing. Lower 55 during the midnight sun, and upper 66 during winter.

I don't know...but for me...to actually see it, it is by luck....coz when you decided to visit, you never know what is the solar activity at that time....planning always few months b4 visiting...
and even there is aurora, but if sky not clear, weather not good, cloudy...you cant see anything.....
Of coz staying for many days in the arctic circle has very high chance to see it...but no one can guarantee, even local tour also don't guarantee...

For me it was planning -
1) Find out what is solar cycle, aurora and why it appears, etc
1) Check spaceweather for past history/records
2) at the same time, check for locations which has long history of appearances, typical cloud situation during winter, etc
3) Go with some specialised company that would be driving around to find aurora (and they stay out for a very long time - they can return back to lodge like 4 am, but this means you have to be willing to do that), able to access current cloud formation, and aurora forecast, etc.

While the tour does not guarantee as it's still dependent on a few nature situation, but if they are in this field for long, they usually will have very good chances of spotting aurora, especially in this solar max year (2012/2013). This is also because of the willingness to travel far and wide (they can travel up to 200 km or even more) during the night time just to get a better chance of sighting it and they are usually limited to max of 8 persons. But then the people on the tour must be willing to go for such long and cold drives...

:) Thanks for sharing...ya..as you said it's still dependent on a few nature situation.
I did follow the Aurora Chasing tour, they drove us from tromso to border of Finland / Sweden, #26, #27...sky very clear....we waited hours and they decided try another spot...then went back...
I believe as what you said, they .......usually.......have very good chances ....
Maybe you could advise lchoong78 how and when to chase the aurora....

Very interesting church! Where is this ?

I visited Norway earlier this year but only went as far north as Lofoten during early spring, but I am missing it much already.
