current gear is just a canon 7D with kit 1 lens.

Make full use of your newly-purchased equipment...! Don't let it 'rot' in the dry cabinet!
But most importantly, arm yourself with some basic knowledge.
Things like learning how to operate your camera, and basics of photography + lighting.
Shoot more, but don't blindly shoot!
Do join some of the outings, where you can have a chance to be guided along on your learning path...

cam-whoring is not abusing the cam. It is just abusing the sensor. :bsmilie:

Do join our coming outings and from there you can meet those "Master/Guru" who willing to guide/teach in term of theory or technical skill of phoyography; which you wouldn't learn so much from books..:thumbsup:
