Nokton 35mm f1.2 V1 vs V2 on film

Yesterday I loaded up both my Zeiss Ikons with a roll of Provia 100F each, stuck a Nokton 35/1.2 V1 on one Zeiss Ikon and stuck a Nokton 35/1.2 V2 on the other Zeiss Ikon and went out and shot them side by side. I had a Nikon A2 warming filter on both lenses. I just uploaded the unedited scans to flickr, so if you're interested take a look. The link to the set is below. I've done no post processing or editing whatsoever. These images are exactly as they came out of my Coolscan 5000 earlier tonight. I might go through and delete some of the less interesting test shots, but I'm going to bed now so it can wait until morning.

Just browsing quickly through my shots, I'd say the V2 has higher contrast wide open and renders colours a little cooler than the V1. Anyone see any other differences?

The oof areas looks a bit different.. Or its just me

Great stuff Jon!

Looking at #33 above, its not quite obvious but expand it to their original uploaded size, I see v2 as definitely sharper wide open!

Btw, that's close to 1kg per set up x 2 ? :p

nice!! does the bokeh looks like noktorn 50mm 1.1? or is just me :)

very tempted, argh should I get this or nokton 50mm 1.1... tough choice..
newghost tried on ur rd1x? :) im running it ok my rd1 ..

It might well boil down to misfocus though.

cool.

Jon you alright if I share this on RFSG's webpage?

Simple and accurate shots with a fair control method =

The V1 presents to me a more 'vintage' appeal.

jon - thanks for doing the comparison and making all the shots available.

based on your samples (w/ the additional ones on flickr), i concur with your comments regarding the contrast and the temp, probably as a result of new coating to the lens, possibly without any other modifications to the lens design. if so, this would make a very interesting low / high contrast versions of the same lens (similar to the S.C. and M.C. versions).

thanks guys :)

definitely possible, but looking over all the test shots the V1 does seem softer wide open. it could just be lens sample variation or the camera/lens combo, but other users are also reporting that the V2 is sharper wide open.

Thanks Jon for sharing!
Are they taken with manual settings (aperture & shutter speed)? Cos the f1.2 shots, the pics from V1 seems a little "brighter".
Maybe maximum aperture of V1 is f1.2 and V2 is f1.25?? hahahaha

I used AE mode on the Zeiss Ikons. Could also be a slight metering difference between the two cameras...:dunno:

again inspired by this thread, i managed to borrow a Nokton 35mm f/1.2 II for the weekend to do a similar test on digital... admittedly, my photos are not as good as jon's.
