Noise perofrmance test: 60D vs 450D

Actually a lot more goes into noise performance imo. This may measure the amount of noise present in the photos the 2 cameras take, but do not account for the pattern of noise created and what kind of noise, how the noise looks etc. A camera may produce photos of lower noise values, but if the noise appears blotchy and all that, it's still not good to look at. Test charts don't really say much imo, I would look at real pictures.

Other than that, the results are not surprising, since Canon already released 500D and 550D after 450D, so it is not really fair to compare the two since the tech is so different. Like the others suggested, a comparison between the 60D and more recent cameras like 550D or 7D might be more appropriate.

this thread is a useful thread for poor ppl like me that have a wish to upgrade my body from my fellow 450D.
450D already serve me for 2 years and still works well...

If it's still serving you well, perhaps you don't need to upgrade it? ;)

I recently caught up with a few old friends I hadn't met in some time. One of them had his 10D with him. He'd bought it back when it was a new model and he's still happy with it cos it's serving him well (with the aid of a few nice lenses).

Just cos a camera is a few years old doesn't necessarily mean you can't use it to take great pictures. :)

ahhahaa..
ya, my 450D still serves me well..
but i need a "closer" ISO step..
i only can bump my ISO up to 800 since the ISO step will go to 1600 directly...
that's the reason i consider to change my body...
and i dnt like 7D due to the weight..

:D:D

OT

Even though I own a FF which ISO performance is much better than the 450D, however I do keep it as a backup cam and the body of choice for my 18-200IS.

Sample pix below is taken by the 450D with a 17-50F2.8 (@F2.8, 50mm) in ISO 400.

Ah ok. Happy shopping then! :)

Well done Wxg!

In fact a noise comparison test seemed to indicate that the 60D slightly edged out the 50D at high ISOs.

In use, the 60D does give excellent IQ up to iso 800, and very good IQ up to iso 3200.
