Went to Malapascua during Chinese new year to catch the thresher shark. Wake up everyday at 4:30am. Not luck. Probably not a good time. Visibility also so so. Wont go back anytime soon. But seeing mandarin fish mating for the first time was fascinating. Good thing they only have one position. Sharing my limited shots.

Same same on my trip 3yrs back.... Manta was seen, but very bad vis. No thresher also.... felt like kena con paying for Nitrox to knee down and 'pray' for a thresher every morning....

Ya man. Wah! 3 years ago ah! Then my feeling of not going back again is correct. :bsmilie:

For the price, many other places to choose from unless really a died hard thresher fan. I was seduced after watching the discovery or nat geo documentary.

Depends on luck lah.....

Some divers we spoke to, saw 2 thresher 3 days in a row.... maybe those divers paid alittle extra to the DM :bsmilie:

Or the DM or dive center pay them to say so... Is a myth la. :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

i think it depends on luck. i went there twice last year. first trip i saw the shark on every morning dive for 4 days. once in the afternoon. 2nd trip only saw once out of 4 morning dives. but on the same trip, some people claimed they saw 5 on one dive, which we were on another site:s

Or how much did you tip your DM… :bsmilie:

When diving at Malaspascua on year 2008 and 2009.

Stay at exotic resort. The dive shop usually plan 2 morning dive at 5:30 ans 6:00.

From my experience, not necessary to go on 1st trip at 5:30.
During 1st year (2008) when Monal Shore every day 1st trip (5:30) only saw during safety stop time.

The 2nd year (2009), plan both 5:30 and 6:00 dive, saw 3 Thersher shark on 6:00 dive.

i was there in june and august. june was good, vis was much better than august. i stayed in exotic resort as well. they have different timings to be shared between dive resorts, so it's not really up to us. some days, we go earlier, some days later. that's why i think it depends on luck. the 2nd trip, only saw it once hovering over our heads near the boat.

these are shot on the first trip. sorry for posting on your thread. let me know if you want me to remove it.

and yes! we tipped our DMs handsomely for both trips. they tried their best:)

WoW! No apologise needed. These are nice. At least i get to see how close you can really get.

And no tips is necessary this round. :bsmilie:
