'No Photography' Plz...

you mean she is a mandarin-speaking korean?? does she carry a heavy accent?

yes she does. i really thought she was a chinese from mainland b4 she spoke korean to a
older woman beside me. i was really surprise when she did. now, i'm still wondering if she
is a korean or a chinese from mainland.

you know her?

did she refer to the older women next to you as the sister, or is she refering to some other people who is not around when she ask you?

most koreans i came across dun speak mandarin at all. the rare few speak with a very heavy accent. some celebrities managed well with mandarin though they may have just memorised it. i just find it very unusual for the person to approach you in mandarin rather than in simple english (which is more commonly spoken as a common language except for native mandarin speakers). beyond that, anything is plain wild guess.

i often get calls from strangers who do not know me, only want to speak in mandarin and who do not understand simple english at all, and i know they are not locals. given the rampancy of frauds, i typically ignore them. i guess supposedly if there is anything "suspicious", your offering to call the police, other than to protect your photographing rights, will also help to clear from further harassment arising from such possibilities.

you sounded like a badly hurt victim... :bsmilie: why? they approach you before in china huh?

she was refering to one of the women in the pic as her sis. not the older woman beside me.
the girl with a headphone and a cup of drink on her hand is a victim. the other 2 gals with
back facing me are the approacher. they have been harassing the poor girl for more than 30
mins for all i knew. :embrass:

becos these koreans were in group, so when i was shooting this pic, my only focus was on
the subject. little did i know the korean women were eyeing on me and the direction of my
cam was pointing. :dunno: the older woman saw me first, she was in the frame at first but
i didnt triger the shot untill she walked away with a glum face, i knew it but i didnt think
i would bothered her. she than walked to the chinese speaking korean which was juz meters
away from me on my right. i sensed something amiss when i could see from the edge of my
eyes that they were talking to each other while looking at me. i than walked to the left
towards the bus-stop. :bsmilie:

lol no la. i just call em hardcore coz i find them annoying coz i don't believe in forcing your beliefs and faith on others. but i have known some koreans in my lifetime who are like that who do speak chinese.

Finally I got a response from NLB after almost a month :

My question sent on 04/05/2009 11:55 PM :

Is it true that the public cannot take photos OUTSIDE the Library ?
Please advise.

The response on Wed 27/05/2009 11:24 AM :

Thank you for your query and my sincere apologies for the delay in responding to you.

We have checked on this and would like to share that members of the public may take photographs outside the National Library Building, as long as they do not cause any nuisance or danger to themselves or other members of the public.

We hope this clarifies and thank you for your interest in our libraries.

Yours sincerely,

Yogeeta D (Ms)

Even if we cause any nuisance, the NLB staff have no right to stop us. Only the police can.

Yup, that is correct, Anywhere outside their area is out of their jurisdiction.

What about inside the library?? The library is considered a public place also right?

I think I'll just have to shoot animals at the zoo....

ooo song. print and bring this and show it to the guards when they harass u.

my cameras are mostly in my dry box unless i am going overseas...

cos 1, nothing much to shoot.
2, nothing worth to shoot.
3, nothing better to shoot.

I don't agree.

1. look for something to shoot if you care to walk beyond Orchard Road
2. many thing worth shooting if you care to look around
3. it is better than keeping in the cabinet and collect dust. Let the camera exercises.
