Why don't you remove the gimbal altogether for your practice... Minimize damage

Yah, you got the point. But is it OK to leave the power for the transmitter and iosd remain connected when we are not making use of this two items?

If you are removing the gimbal, remove the transmitter as well (in case you forgot to fix the antenna, you might fry the transmitter when it powers up) but you can leave the IOSD on.

do not power up gimbal without GoPro installed. you risk burning the brushless motor. Do it at your own risk. Also upon powering up gimbal, to not touch/disturb the gimbal.(eg. power up gorpo, putting GoPro to start recording and etc.)

Thanks much "lighting" and "Guile". Points noted

Can I just unplug the video link and DC cable from the TX in order to fly without FPV but with the Gopro recording? Will this damage anything?

Yes you can, but why would you do that if you're still attaching the vtx on the Phantom? Unless you have your vtx hard mounted on the Phantom with double sided tape, it will be better to remove vtx altogether to reduce weight if you're planning to fly without FPV. Just leave the camera and gimbal attached.

You are right. VTX is hard mounted with double sided tape. I decided to do this because not very sure certain places may not allow FPV flying. Tks

No, the gimbal controller is designed to move the gimbal with the weight of the gopro attached. Not putting on the gopro will result in some severe twitching of the gimbal. If you don't need it, disconnect the power supply to it.

I mean the gopro will be attach for recording but disable the VTX. More concern is the VTX signal interference.

Hi Spen, you can leave the VTX there....just don't take out your monitor or goggles and you'll be fine.

5.8Ghz on the AVL58 signal is fine in Singapore....it's more for those using FPV equipments on 900mhz or 1.2 ghz bandwidth as that interferes with other radio equipments. If I'm not mistaken, the limit for 5.8Ghz in Singapore is 1000mW (http://www.ida.gov.sg/~/media/Files/PCDG/Licensees/StandardsQoS/RadiocomEquipStd/TSSRD.pdf), most of us are using VTX way lower than that (AVL 58 is 500mW, Immersion RC is 600mW, the BOSCAM ones range from 200-500mW).

Most professional aerial video services here flying Hexas and Octos carrying DSLR uses 5.8gHz on their Multi Rotors from what I've seen and they have flown at quite a few places around Singapore.

The only worry using 5.8gHz is that anyone with similar equipments can tap into your channel and view what you're recording. Or worst, you can also accidentally be looking at other's FPV camera while flying if they are nearby and on the same frequency. This is scary if you're flying far and out of sight and you'll have no idea which direction your MR is facing and where it is because what appears on your monitor is someone else's camera POV when they power it up near you.

The safest will actually be the Lightbridge as it uses 2.4Ghz encrypted anti interference signal so no one can tap into your channel nor will you stumble on other's channel or camera view.

Thanks Guile for all the valueable informations.

Hi, please don't do that. Gimbal might burn out.

no need gopro, dont connect gopro and gimbal. your questions and replies are really vague.

As a new bee, sorry if I could have distorted my question and cause any confusion.

Basically, if you don't plan to put a GoPro on the gimbal. Don't power it.

I would remove the Zenmuse H3-3D Gimbal together with the gopro for fly practicing.
This give reducing weight but am not sure how long time you gain, flying with and without gimbal+gopro totally different experience.

If it flyaway or any accident happen, u loss less. ;)

Noted with thanks
