Capitalism

Credits to SomeFormOFhuman and edutilos- as I saw their shot and realised that the black marble stripe tiles outside Orchard Ion is actually reflective. Before setting up, I circled the area outside Ion and realise that it is indeed possible to realise this but I was not observant enough to notice this.

Anyway, this was a second attempt. I prefer a landscape orientation for this shot and I do have a preference of not cropping whenever possible. That said, I realised that my first attempt was very bad in terms of aligning the lines. Went back today for a reshoot. I must say, the shoot and reshoot makes me realise how uncomfortable it is to lay on the ground in public (which makes me wonder why some people did planking when it was once the craze and in-thing). Quite ironic, there was a photography talk behind me.

Insisted on doing a single exposure despite having the second opportunity of a reshoot. In fact, I used very similar setting as I was trying to reproduce the same exposure and tone, as it was to my liking.

Hi nitewalk!

i really like shot #67 of the lighthouse but at the same time baffled as to how the black card technique is used in that situation. Correct me if i'm wrong, the black card is used to block out the horizon for longer exposure of the water? if so, how did you deal with the lighthouse structure? Sounds silly, but did you trace & cut out a rough shape of the lighthouse on the card? XD

thanks for your guidance!!

Thank you! Glad it works for you.

Anyway, for your question, I actually used three small pieces of black cards. Basically I didn't cut out the outline of the lighthouse, I covered the sky using these three. Initially I covered the left and right and I realised there is still the top so I placed one more to cover the top and used one hand to hold all three. Hope that helps!

wow sounds difficult to have three cards in one hand. yep sure did help alot & shd definitely try out one day too! thanks! look forward to see more awesome shots! ;)

Bro, interesting series you have here.

btw, mind sharing the location of the lighthouse too?

Shimmer

Single exposure. Black card used.

All these high-rise HDB flats presents excellent location to shoot. Met a fellow shooter on the lift, only realising so when he pressed the button for 40th floor (chances of meeting someone who stays all the way at 40th floor is quite rare). I went down to 20th floor from 37th floor as I had too little foreground at such heights.

Missed out on the red hot sun at 7:13pm. By the time I changed to 70-200 the sun was gone. :bsmilie:

HDR image with the use of ND110 to create the shine of the afternoon Sun. Lucky there wasn't too much cloud movement over the length of the longest exposure if not I would have to use exposure blending. Somehow I have a lot of liking for such cloud and sky pattern, almost as much as some would for the sky and colour during the golden hours. I guess it is somewhat subjective.

Been following your series. Please keep it going.

Reminds me what a "kit lens" can do in the proper hands.

Happy 47th Birthday Singapore!

Watching the fireworks 'live' at the Promontory is a fabulous experience. Shooters lined up along the railing like a firing squad. Observed people with different techniques. Some use manual mode, some use aperture priority, some use bulb mode and some even use black cloth technique. Ultimately, the most enjoyable was when all the fireworks went off after the pledge. At the climax, the boom and the scale of the fireworks was quite an overwhelming experience. The sense of pride consumed me which resulted in some blown shots as I forgot to release the shutter button. :bsmilie:

New Addition to the Singapore City Skyline.

All around me, people started changing to telephoto or use telephoto range to zoom in onto the chopper with the flag. I switched to an UWA instead. Could not resist the idea of capturing the fly past against the backdrop of the marina bay area. Very much influenced by style of shooting. Always felt the gap between the cluster of buildings at Marina Square and the Singapore Flyer kind of affects me when composing a shot of this angle of the marina area. The chopper with the flag kind of fills in this gap.

Back to basics. No GND, no black card, no multiple exposures or HDR. Just a single exposure and minor tonal adjustments.

Maze

I can't fathom why an architect would design such an unique rooftop design not meant for access. For years, this rooftop can't even be seen as there are no buildings around that can offer a view of this rooftop until the new housing at old Havelock estate for relocating the Zion Road en-bloc residents came up. Maybe there is some architectural considerations, it is beyond me, despite standing there and look at the design. I wondered what was on the mind of the architect. Tried to show the intent of the architect, to my best imagination.

Handheld, single exposure with minor tonal adjustments.

For some reasons unknown to me, I like the maze photo.

Keep up the good work on your thread.

I didnt go high enough. If i had planned well, I would have been able to clean view especially had i gone higher.

HDR Image. Cannot remember how many exposures.
