Nissin Ni866

i got 1 today for SLR revolution at funan, canon 7D user here.
Was told it will not be able to trigger wirelessly using 7D.

however after i got home to play around with the setting it works :bsmilie::bsmilie:

Any accessories that come with this flash? e.g: pouch, flash stand, sync cables, etc....

another question.. anyone used it with any wireless radio trigger without modification to flash or trigger?

Phottix Aster can as well. Zero issues. 100% trigger rate.

HOWEVER the Nissin Di622 needs modification for canon systems.

using 866 on my 550d. find that using ttl mode, the metering read as if theres no flash. is it normal?

just got the Ni866... is it normal that it makes a noise when it is auto focusing... ie 24mm to 105mm...

Nissin flashes does sound louder (zoom) as compared to other models/makes.

my Di866 does not sync with my canon 550D... the flash does fire... but it fires before my shutter open and close... everything else looks fine... I wonder wether i need a firmware update... will go to service centre on Monday...

I tested on my G9... it works well... sucks... hate to have a toy and not able to play with it... my serial number starts with 93xxxx....

it looks every thing is ok but the power refresh is really slow, sometime it might take few more second to be ready for the next shot...wondering if it is my battery low power or simply the flash really slow....

what power setting are you using?

Also, I’ve found rechargeable batteries like Sanyo Eneloops are better than akaline batteries in recycling time. The fastest but most expensive are those blue lithium energizers

Anyone used this flash with the Phottix Aster before, I realised that my sync speed will have the black bar at the bottom when I set the shutter speed to 1/250, but it will go away at 1/200. I'm using the Canon 450D. Is this normal or I messed up some settings? Was under the impression that the sync speed (or most wireless sync speed) was supposed to be 1/250.

Thanks

Hi, I'm very new to flash photography. Can anyone advise if I should get the Nissin Ni866 or the Canon 430 EX II?

The max sync speed for Di866 is 1/200. Unless you use Pocket Wizard.

But in any case, just for the benefit for those who dont know, when mount on camera, use the "hi-speed" mode on ur TTL menu. You shld be able to go up to 1/4000 (On my 550D).

The only issue I have with this flash is its unreliability. I have used a TTL cord I bought on ebay. 1 mth ago, the TTL work like charm on it. But until few days ago it just wont work. Some of the 3rd party products doesnt work well with this flash. But miraculously, it work evrytime on my china PT-04.

All in all, I think 580EX II is still the best to work with Canon cameras. Saving up to buy tht one.

Hi eedwinn. How far into flash photography do you think you will go in future? If you're using off-camera flash (EG: umbrellas and all), just get the Yong Nuo 460 II in the meantime while you save up for 580EX. IMO.

If you just want a powerful external flash, Di866 will be more than tht. If you're using 7D even better (Can do wirelessly). I can't comment on 430 EX II coz I've never tried one. ;)

Shahrie, thanks 4 the reply 1/200 kinda sucks but i guess we can what we pay cheers

The only way to get higher sync speeds for the Di866 is to shoot in ETTL mode on the flash wiht High speed sync enabled, and with an ETTL solution, either cord or Pocket Wizard and the like.

Phottix Asters and other triggers without ETTL are limited to 1/200.

Hi there, thanks for the advise! I doubt I would go to the extend of using umbrellas or the studio strobes kind of thing, so 1 external flash would be sufficient.

You mean I can't trigger the flash wirelessly if I'm using other models other than the 7D?

the 1/200 is a limitation of the canon sync speed not the flash unless you use high speed sync but regular remote triggers will only sync at 1/200
