Nikon Wedding Setup - Any thoughts??

What u reckons?

The final one is not to compete with the paid PRO.

The worst that could happen would be that the PRO is not able to deliver the shots as 2nd photogs are overly zealous to get the image for themselves.

Good story tellers are the ones that can shoot from any position at the same time not to compete with others.

We spoke and compromised, will made way for her since she's the pro.
Priority goes to her.. i oni backing up.. And totally agreed with you on the last statement..
Well said..

Oops my bad, didn't read it carefully enough, but having coverage from 17-105mm is good my pov only.

If you are the backup photogrpaher & not get in the way of the paid PRO, actually a good & fast 85mm or a 50mm will be quite enough for indoor, as for outdoor, your 70-200 will be a good choice.

A good backup photographer is someone who can shoot a different angle or different thing that a paid PRO miss out & never have to get in the way or block the paid pro. No point shooting the same angle of the same thing with the paid PRO.

1 worst thing i fear for a backup photographer will be always corss fire with the paid pro. Both photographer shooting each other in their shots.

Rest assured, it ever occured to me before, did took that into consideration, will be on the same side as the pro but try to intro a whole new perspective different from the pro.. Thats my intention.. :)

If I were you, just enjoy the wedding. Bring a 50 f1.4 or a 85 f1.4, and take fewer but maybe more memorable shots as you will be thinking how to maximise your single lens usage.

Haha..ard packed tt in my airport takeoff... but other than morning detailed shots of rings etc.. i guess i wun use tt much often..Ayway tks for ur input bro ;)

i noticed that its important to travel light, used to work on a 2 camera setup too. till i noticed that its really tough doing so if you have to shoot a few days in a roll.

at the end of the day i noticed that i was mainly on one camera with a good zoom. when opportunity permits, i'll snap on an 85mm and work with it instead. but of coz there'd always be a spare camera unit in the bag (which i often leave in the corner when i'm shooting).

Thanks for the suggestion man~
Went with the following setup and i must said it went quite smoothly and fufilled most of my needs as Lisa was mainly on a mid range, tele, and prime (85), so we compliment each other quite well.. :)

Morning : D700/MBD10/17-35/SB900/DembPro & D90/MBD80/24-70/SB900Stofen

Lunch : D700/MBD10/24-70/SB900/GFUniCloud & D90/MBD80/70-200/SB900Stofen

show some pics. show some pics. =)

Sounds like you done what you wanted to do.

I wonder why you did not start at the groom side since the pro is already covering the bride side.

No particular reason... It's the couple arrangement... :)

Sorry, somehow missed this thread until today:embrass:

I use to take alot of wedding actual day during the film days With my main being F5, 28-70 and 20-35 with hammer flash, seldom take them now as i prefer to spend more time with my family. I do however still take wedding shots for friends, i will use D700 with 24-70 for both day n dinner and a tokina 20-35 as back up for tight areas. If an outdoor shoot is pre requested, i will bring along 85 f1.4 and 70-200. Flash will be a SB600.

I am one of those photographer that will not ask the couple to look at me or pre arrange anything for taking pictures as couple had already done that during pre wedding, what they need is natural during wedding day.

I always carry a back up, S5 with 12-24 and 18-200 with SB-26 (i know very old flash) just in case anything goes wrong with the main set.

For my style, i change memory cards very often like after every event and keep them in a very safe area. This is to prevent memory card damage and all photos destroyed. By changing very often, what i lose will only be part of the wedding and not most of it. That is a non repeatable event and i play 'kiasu'

I had been asked as a back up photographer many times, but please make it clear to the couple and all family members that they are suppose to look at the main camera man, just pretend that i m not around unless i told them to do so. Just imagine, the couple look at different photographers....

OT a bit, when i go holiday, i will make sure i have enough CF cards (7 for 7 days trip, 8 for 8 days trip) and so on.... with one additional spare. I change CF card every end of the day, this is to prevent damage card, loss card or loss/stolen camera. At least what i lost is only limited to a day's photo and not all of them, after all, photography and holiday is all about memories

cheers!

Quite informative agreed with TS,
And also agreed with David,

As with me, Carry a Nikon D300s 17-55mm F2.8, with SB900 as the main set.
and extra set of camera system is a must should the main set fail.
which is therefore I always carry 2 sets of camera system when I do AD wedding shoot and ROM/soleminization shoot for the wedding couple.

Lots of batteries, couple of CF(s) card and SD(s) card standby.
More CF card with me to rotate. Even after delivery of images to my prospective clients stll retain for a couple of months just in case. Alhough you store these images in the PC.

:)

Just wondering, is a 35mm or 85mm good enough for ring shot?

I have a wedding photoshoot coming up but I don't have a macro lens (never used one before actually).
