That is a good thing right? :)

I remember I once met a Japanese guy in Tokyo 2010. He worked for Nikon.

He said in the past they made cameras that were legends, but company did not really make money.
Now their aim is to make customers change camera once every year.

And he said the Sony APSC sensor has been the same for many models. Ha ha.

It's the same for many electronics company etc... Now, it's about making (tiny) differences to new products every cycle and tempt consumers into "upgrading" ever so often... HAHA :bsmilie:

Old Nikon bodies usually can find batteries, no issue

PX625 can use the Wein Cell.
Usually the older FM or FE or FG series used the LR44 type.

For F801 F90x etc used the standard AA sized battery.
F501 uses the AAA small battery.
F70 used CR2025 or 2X CR123 battery.
F601QD uses CR-P2/DL-223A (can modify from CR123).

Many years ago, I went to Korea to shoot the winter temples.
The cameras that used LR44, AA alkaline all failed.
It was the F601QD saved the day. The Lithium battery managed to survive -30C the brutal Korean weather.
The FM mechanical cam was OK too.

I use a hearing aid 1.4v batt along with some aluminium foil for my FTN. Meter reading is exactly the same as my FE

Yeah, cost cutting and survivability.

Nice, even tho I very much prefer black camera.

I shot with this lens last week, first time I used it after picking up my camera actually.

If I could poison you a little, you might wanna consider getting the legendary 105 f2.5 ;)

Haha. I don't even know how much the 105/2.5 cost actually. A friend of mine gave me the Series E 100/2.8 actually, I'm loving what I'm seeing from this roll. Enjoy your cam!

hey all, looking for a 35mm nikon lens, alot of bad review for the nikon 35mm, anyone got any recommendation?

Are you looking for an auto or manual focus lens? For af, there's two main choices - 35mm f2 and the f1.8 (dx). If budget isn't an issue, there's the f1.4 afs. For manual focus, the more expensive ones would be the zeiss lenses and f1.4 ais versions. Cheaper would be the f2 ais version. They are all good lenses and really depends on your budget.

If money is not an issue, go for the zeiss

The Nikkor 35/f2 is pretty crappy, using a Nikkor 35/f2.8 now and I'm loving it. I used to think that fast lens=good lens, but thats not the case.

The old 35mm F2 AFD has a design issue, the aperture sticks and elements contaminated by the evaporated grease.
All the Nikon service repair knows this FCO (Field change order) and can fix it.

I had the same 35mm F2 AFD, 2 of them. I fixed them and the results are pretty decent.
I did not use the 35mm F2 MF.

Camera worked pretty well. As I am getting older, AF and AE are important for me.

This was taken about 13 or 14 years ago. Rescanned and found lots of dust, need some work.

I have stopped using all the MF Nikon cameras.
Reason: age, slowness, eye sight dropping, old flower eyes.
Nikon F2, F3, FM, FM2/T all belong to yesteryear category.

The F501 is light and very reliable. My usual setup now.
The F601 has built in flash and very handy. Same AF as F801.
If raining, L35AW can be used.

Current setup:

F501 + 24mm F2.8 / 17.5mm F3.5 Tokina
F501 + 28mm F2 AIS / 28mm F1.8 AF Sigma
F501 + 35mm F2 AFD

F601 + 58mm F1.4 Voitlander

F601 + 85mm F1.8 AFD
F501 + 105mm F2.5
F801 + 180mm F2.8 AFD
