Nikon Portraiture Shootout!!

Pardon my ignorance but I have never been to portraiture outings before do we have time to shoot and change lens often. I am still deciding what lens to bring ??. Initially was thinking of taking only 1 lens along but maybe I will have to reconsider. Anybody can help ?? Thanks.

Dennis, just bring your whole trunk case of lenses.

What lenses to use in a way is personal preference, and also what one wants to shoot.

For myself, I change lenses as and when I feel like it and need it. I can change like 10 times within an hour? It really depends.

For general human portraiture, my lense of choice would be 70-200mm then 28-70mm, with occassion of 35mm and 50mm. I almost never use macro lense for portraiture. But again, it's my personal preference.

Back to your question, I think 17-55 and 80-200 for you? ;p Or your whole trunk case?

I can survive easily on a 50mm a whole day, mostly I shoot within the range of 17-200mm, anything that goes for me, what I want, like perspective, distortion etc.

If I'm lazy, a 50mm would do just fine, if you've looked at my Li Rong shots, those are soley taken on a 50 f/1.8

It's personal preference, not that it's no good. My AF-D 105mm is a bit "noisy" in focusing, so....

dennis - there's really no hard and fast rule on wat is a portrait lens. just use watever is most comfortable and familar with u. besides, there are other lenses to try out on sat. just remember to bring more CF cards... the 12MP D2x will burn thru ur 1GB in no time... :sweat:

tip - travel light! if the weather holds, its gonna be another blardy hot shooting day. and, unless u got ur own PA, u have to carry ur own stuff and move ard with it! :bsmilie:

Originally I only wanted to use the 85 f1.4 but now maybe should throw in the 17-55, 70-200 I think that should be enough. Maybe a 45P, FE and ....... :sweat:
