Precisely! Zoom, zoom, zoom seems to be the only thing in many people's mind... I have recommended to many to get this very good and cheap lens for training on composition. It functions as a fully-manual macro lens with the reversal ring used and is a jolly good loupe
Indeed, zoom is actually a kinda poison. 50mm is so good coz it's a "normal focal length" kinda lens, doesn't take much to get it right. Another eg, 24-70 is significantly more difficult to implement correctly compared to a 28-75. (to maintain decent control on distortion, brightness, sharpness). I just got a 2nd hand sigma 28-200 to play play and for travelling to Indo next week, basket...needed to stop down to f11 to get decent sharpness.
hi all, i just got my d70, have been shooting for 2weeks already.. have some question and hope that you're can help.. i've a pro fren that told me when he shoot for weddings, he normally use f5.6 or f8 with flash. does that mean that my 18-70dx, f3.5 - 4.5 do not make a difference with a constant f2.8 len if i do not set it at f2.8?
Thanks~
1/60 @ f/8 ?? not very nice.. dark backgrounds.. only subject highlight.. (shooting in a dinner function)..
I would prefer.. 1/45 @ f4 - 5.6 dial down your flash - 0.6ev and your will get nicely balance foregrounds.. and ambient background lighting..
having and f2.8 lens is not really necessary.. it is my personal opinion that an f4 - 5.6 lens like the 24-120mm AF-S VR is a great lens to work with.. even with flash photography..
This was taken at 1/4 @ f5.6 @ ISO640 on the 24-120 AFS-VR.
It I were to shoot at 1/60 f5.6 this would have not had the mood and ambience that you see here..
thnx alot for all the advises~ i agree that for a practise lens , 50mm 1.8 would make a perfect choice.. and after shooting for over my weekends.. i realised its really difficult to come out with good shots~ luckily some of the shot's composition can be savage by PS.. Ooo.. wonder how those pros did it with film last time....
