High-precision shutter unit
No shutter unit in any other camera comes close to matching the precision and durability of the F6’s assembly. Created from cutting-edge materials — DuPontTM KEVLAR® and a special aluminum alloy — the blades of the shutter unit offer unparalleled reliability and are extremely lightweight, for lightning-quick movement. For enhanced accuracy, the movement of the blades is carefully analyzed using a high-speed video camera and computer simulations, enabling unprecedented precision even at shutter speeds of up to 1/8,000 second.

Minimized operational sound and vibration
Nikon engineers were so intent on subduing the camera’s operational sounds that they used a professional audio room to properly gauge their quality and frequency. The degree of vibration to which every part of the camera would be subjected was measured. This meticulous approach has resulted in a camera comprised of parts that have been highly refined for absolute minimum vibration, and frequency of movement attenuated to a level below that detectable by the human ear.

Highly efficient mechanics
The development of the F6 marks the first time 3D computer movement analysis has ever been applied to an SLR. This technique reveals the degree of power distributed to or generated by particular parts in specific directions. This made it possible for us to optimize the mechanical operation of the camera with fewer parts, leading to lower power consumption and higher durability

Harsh environmental testing
To ensure the camera could withstand the most severe conditions and environments, the F6 has been subjected to rigorous testing. The F6’s astonishing reliability is a function of our “the right material for the right place” approach. Our engineers considered countless situations for camera use, then submitted the F6 to real-life testing to virtually guarantee exceptional dependability wherever and whenever photographers shoot.

Sad to say...there F6 doesn't support exchangeable digital-back...otherwise, it will terminate all other SLR sales  ...haha...; I might upgrade to it, just like Leica M9; from the spec, I dont' see any significant reason for me to upgrade my current unit (F4&F5) the F6, to me, is just an slightly improvement over F100, agree?

I guess the retial price likely to be around S$3K (+,-)

overall, I fell N fail to launching new SLR body; look at C, they have been spent time&resource in advancing DSLR (the newly 20D, launched yesterday); I disagree N has made a right direction; in fact, the newly D2X has two drawbacks: not Full-Frame ;( , ISO only from 100 to 800 ;( (this is horrible...; C has launched a better 1Ds earily...

N really disaPoIntEd mi :bheart:

Isn't it a F100 upgrad version ...

No build-in vertical grip ... *sigh* a Profession Level SLR? :

In my view, the F6 is an updated F4 (hence the battery grip) with the latest AF, metering and weather sealing.
Too bad there is no detachable viewfinder.

So Nikon took the best manual focus camera and installed the best AF system and metering in it to give it.... Nikon's best film camera?

It'll be best for the F6 to have a detachable battery grip but have it included in with the body as a standard package :bsmilie: :bsmilie: rather than as an item that you need to purchase separately :sweatsm:

Just wonder will the F6 cost lower than F5 since it does not have the battery grip???? :dunno:

None of the "improvements" mentioned in the F6 specs will not make a poor photographer a better one.

Neither will the average amateur nor many pros have much use for the "advancements" made in the F6. AAMOF, many photogs haven't even utilised half the potential of their cameras. It's like buying an expensive swiss army knife and never going camping.

True. I would like them to do it the F4 way. Make an F6(s) package that includes the grip, so those who don't want it don't have to pay extra. But then again, isn't it the same as buying the F6 and the grip together in 1 receipt?

Speculations on the forums say US$2000 or so for F6. The street price for the F5 is around US$1900 or so... Well, I think since the F6 will be in a niche market in this digital world, they could get away with pricing it higher than the F5 and not include the battery grip in it. :(

F6's retail price b4 tax is JPY315,000 in Japan. Expected sales date: Some time near the end of October.

Film will always ROCKZ!!!!! :vhappy:

I will hold on to my FM2 for as long as I live. ;)

Regards,
-Michelle- :D

yea great since F6 is out.. but like u guys said.. its more of lik a improvement over F100..and not many users actually utilise the full performance level of any pro SLR, so will the price of F5 drop much? heh.. *hoping it does* :bsmilie:

i perfer the F5.....but meantime.....i will hold on to my F100.

Yeah, give me a F5 anytime and i'll take it.

However, F6 is new and I'm not going to rule it out yet. F5 has been tried & tested.

Let F6 be tested and let's see what it can do or rather can F6 do the things as stated by Nikon.

Cheers,

Would like to get one but still have to see how the retail price is. :sweatsm:

Do you think current owners will start "dumping" their F5 to the Buy n Sell when F6 reaches local market? For Canon case, have been seeing quite a few selling off their 300D...

ha.. certainly hoping price of F5 will drop... and the more the better~

but as wht nikon said.. the specs of F6 are better den F5.. but how significant is the difference and how much of a difference does it make? pardon me since im not really into the technical aspects of camera bodies, metering n sensor systems n etc..

so.. any thoughts?

Ahh, don't bother so much, still stick to my two film bodies of F100. :D

Cheers.

Still using my F4s. Don't have a need to upgrade yet... At least until I find the money for 200-400 f/4 (never!)

Im hanging on to my F90X :D

me too!!! hehehe ....

Me too Ray :D ,Its my first Nikon film camera and am happily suprised with the results Im getting even though Im still working things out with the settings ,so happy in fact I bought an F70 to use as a makeweight when I dont want to take it out ( partys ,rainy days etc )

Sorry to all you digital users but I like it even better than the D70 I had .

actually it's attractive to me becos it is smaller & lighter than the F5. i don't want a camera that's as big as my face :D and gives me arm ache...

i like the F6 becos it IS like an improved F100: supposed to be quieter, has mirror lock-up, better positioned AF points, better compatibility with my dinosaur MF lenses...

but looking at the data, it seems to be a battery eater!
