Top 10 reasons why you should get a Nikon F/G mount over other mounts for filmmaking.

1. Longest flange distance

At 46.5mm, Nikon's flange distance is even longer than the EF's 44mm. You will be able to adapt Nikon lenses to EF mount camcorders but EF lenses cannot be adapted to Nikon F mount adapters and accessories.

2, Cheaper lenses

The same Sigma or Tamron lense is often slightly cheaper for Nikon.

3. Back catalogue

F- mount has been around since 1959.There are uncountable number of lenses by Nikon and 3rd party brands. Many are sharp enough for video use.

4. "Internal" ND filters

The long flange distance of the F mount allows brands like Fotodiox, Aputure and Holy Manta to make variable ND filters that goes between the lens and the camera body. This type of "internal" ND filter is essential when using focal lengths of under 35mm. Regular front-of-lens ND filters tend to produce X-patterns when used with wide angle lenses. Often times, ultra wide angle lenses don't even have filter threads, forcing videographers to use a mattebox and rails. Internal ND adapters also saves you from having to buy step up and step down rings for different sized lenses.

5. Speedboosters
A speedbooster is a one-off investment that upgrades all your F mount lenses by at least a stop. There are no speedboosters for native E-mount, X-mount, M43, EF-M lenses because the flange distance of mirrorless lenses are too short.

6. Physical Aperture ring

Speedboosters and adapters for F/G mount lenses comes with aperture ring to physically engage the iris of G mount lenses without the use of electronics.
This eliminates any worries about contact failure and pulsing associated with electronic iris.
Adapters for electronic EF-mount lenses require electronic control.

7. Future-proof

Cameras come and go but good glass is always usable. The F mount has been around since 1959 and has been adapted to practicallyl every camera that came after it. Even if E-mount or M43 goes the way of the dodo, you will still be able to use your Nikon glass on their successors.

8. Maintenance

Manual Nikon lenses continue to be serviceable after many years of use.

9. Analogue

Even if the electronics of a G mount lense dies, the aperture and focusing is still useable in manual mode by way of an adapter.

10. TechArt Pro / Fotodiox Pronto AF

A cheap F to M mount adapter will give old Nikon lenses a new lease of life with autofocus adapters like the TechArt Pro and the Pronto.

I saw many who shoot RED and uses Nikon. I wonder why?
