Nikon D90 Shutter speed conversion

Shutter speed. Example, 1/4000 is 1sec divided by 4000 which is, 0.00025 of a second.

In terms of exposure, 1 Stop consists of 3 "steps". Example, F2.8 stop down 1 stop. Which is, 1st step: F3.2, 2nd: F3.5, 3rd: F4

I'm not sure if this applies to all, certainly some cameras can set the aperture and shutter to 1/2 or 1/3 stop. So it's not necessary 3 "steps" in 1 stop.

Looking at TS numbers, more like 1/2 stop.

You cannot say that with absolute certainty, because it can be configured to be 2 clicks per stop, or 3 clicks... (ie. 1/2 or 1/3 stop increments)
anyway TS asked about shutter speed, why you bring up terms like "stop down" and start referring to aperture?

the step is not necessary to be in one third stop, however, in Nikon, one third stops happen to be the default setting.

yiyong, i think you're confused between aperture and shutter speed lah. read up on the basics bro! and then enjoy your D90 ;)

I look thru TS' posts again, never once did he mention about aperture.;)

Can't you read that i'm using "example". i'm implying on steps and stops.

Because TS mentioned he is using a D90. So 1/3 stops are relevant.

Hahaha so sensitive :bsmilie:
Ppl ask about shutter speed, might as well use shutter speed as example right? 1/4000s to 1/2000s is also 1 stop mah...

My D90 is on 1/2 stop increments...
But anyway the whole 1/3 and 1/2 stop debate is IRRELEVANT, since TS didn't ask about how many clicks per stop.

Exactly lor... The thread kena deviated into aperture. Totally irrelevant. I guess some people's comprehension is broken down :bsmilie:

just read the manual.

and TS can go library and borrow some beginners guide on photography as well at the same time, then he wont be asking such questions already..

the first post by TS really kinda drive me crazy.. trying to figure out what he asking...

make me thinking how come got such a huge difference between canon n nikon i didn't know about, how come must convert shutter speed or what one..

hais.. anyway yup, now that everyone has shed light on it.. i think for TS it really boils down to understanding what you have on ur hands...
