Is it true that Nikon D80 is not capable for IR photography?

Well, I tried some of the methods mentioned at those links but still can't get the IR working properly on the D80. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong.

I tried with the D80 kit lens and with a 50mm f/1.8 together with the Hoya R72 filter. The CWB just keeps saying it's No Good. :-( Any help would be appreciated.

Btw, am I suppose to be able to see anything through the viewfinder with the R72 on or is it meant to be really dark... almost like black?

It is very hard to do IR with D80, I believe Montmelo had confirm it before. This is because the IR-cut filter is more sensitive and block off more IR wavelength.

You need to focus and compose before putting on the filter as you can't see anything through the R72 filter (Unless you are looking at the sun which is not advisable :nono: )

Ah ok... will give that a try and see...

Ok. It didn't work. :-(

When is the next IR meetup?

Check this as well.

Try manual exposure when setting your WB and for D80 the exposure will have to be longer. Also try to cover the VF if you are using automatic exposure to set WB, D80 is sensitive to stray light entering from the VF.
