Hi,
Just wondering are you a first time DSLR user. I am just about to get into DSLR and my friends recommended the Nikon D40 or D40x as a good entry level camera.

Nikon D40/x are certainly good entry level DSLRs.. but u may find THIS thread interesting. :)

D40X would be better..

The 30D has better high ISO performance (well, most Canons beat their Nikon counterparts, save perhaps the D50)....

D50? thats something new to me...
is that a mistake?

Personally if you want to really get serious into photography, I think you should do more than deciding on which particular camera body to get. Rather, go readup more on the strength and weakness of each individual system before you decide on which SYSTEM to go into.

Camera body is always changing even within a brand whilst the rest of the accessories like Lens, Flash, etc will stay with you much longer. And you probably have more lens than DSLR body after a few years. Also, take a look at the B&S thread and see for yourself which brand has more used accessories on trade. This might save you some $$$ whether you are buying or selling.

Lastly, when you have decided on a brand, you might consider a used DSLR with a good (eg 50mm 1.8) lens to start with and build your interest from there. A lot of guys (myself included) rushed into getting an around lens covering a wide range (especially tele) but due to budget, sacrifice on image quality (quite a common "mistake" for newbie in my opnion)

just my 2 cents worth...

I would have gone for 30D if my budget back then allows.

hmmm, so u meant that D50 has better noise control compared to 30D?
wow, im surprised

30D is more advanced than d50. 30D can versus D200.

buy D80 lah.....best entry level camera i think. the viewfinder is good, and 3fps is fast enough for sports also.....D80 is good up to ISO800, if you need ISO1600, you need Canon 5D not 30D!
