Yeah, don't worry man, I know how you all feel. Chill. Nikon SG will do it if necessary ma.

But the stats I see here not very convincing that all hit this problems, so will take a step at a time and see.

ESPN, we are glad you are in this with all of us since you will be going for your D70 soon. You are now officially in charge (chief negotiator with Nikon SG) for any problem we have with the D70. :bsmilie:

Wondering, for those that the D70 died, were you all using original batteries or OEMs?

No offence to Eastgear, seriously just wondering.
come to think of it, mine died after i use the batt u sold me

j/k ;p

12/50 already around 25%. This is a serious problem. :thumbsd: Nikon should do something fast.

Well then it is possible due to original Nikon battery. Support EASTGEAR!!!

of cos won't find ALL hit this problem lah. that wud relate to 100% failure right? its really how u want to percieve this pc of news. as far as i know, electronics gadgets have a much smaller failure ratio rate for the first 12mths. things like mobile phones, PDAs, DVD players/recorders, LCD monitors, plasma TVs, etc. i personally think that the failure rate is very serious for an item like D70. imagine nikon sells 100,000 D70 & has 18,000 - 20,000 fail in less than 12 mths.

anyone from electronics manufacturing like to comment on 18%-20% failure rate? :dunno: me not from manufacturing sector but attached to one in my school days.

That's the thing, probably the number of failures have yet to hit the min recall quota?

If there's 20K failure I believe Nikon would have done the recall, anyway it's the main head office that issues orders, not Nikon SG.

i think nikon won't do any mass recall unless there's 'life threatening issues' on the camera like, eg, battery explosion, electric shock on hand grip, etc. its definitely easier for customers to bring their faulty set for repair than to annouce a mass recall worldwide. u reckon? :dunno:

again i made this comment based on other situations. toyota & honda did a mass recall last time becos of life threatening issues like brakes & seat belts flaws.

Nikon did do it before to a few of their consumer series like the CP2500 (IIRC) due to a firmware issue that caused battery to die fast.

If they can do it for a small DCs, they can do it for D70. So it's a question of why not. Will have to wait for reply :)

i guess only nikon will know the real issue of the mass recall of CP2500. maybe there's a leaky capacitor which may cause battery explosion. who knows?

since the D2x is releasing very very soon, i feel that u shud just skip the imtermediate solution & go for the big mama instead. why spend extra & later loss money on resale value & still comes back to big mama? might as well save those cash for accessories.(personal suggestions only.) :)

wondering whether the problem is unique to Singapore and a few selected markets? didn't follow the news elsewhere so I don't have the info.

no one knows the answer? was thinking it might be the heat and humidity here that caused the problem ;p

I have 2 batts for my D70, both are Original Nikon.

Don't think it is due to heat or humidity, mine was put in dry cabinet in air-con room most of the time, only taken out averagely once or twice a month, but still failed.

i agree, same condition here. always kept in dry cabinet and arnd same frequency of use but still failed. i guess this is really a faulty component used in D70.

btw, still waiting for Nikon SG to return my D70...sent it for repair last 14 Feb. already two weeks by tomorrow.

Everytime when I visit Nikon Service Centre, I will see at least 2 persons walking in with a failed D70 to service.

The price of D70 has fallen, and so as the QC. :dunno:
