Hey I wonder if it's normal because my pictures seem very dull mostly and require quite abit of tweaking in my computer. Is this normal? I tried using full auto (so it's not me with the wrong settings), but the pictures are still dull. Help please? >.<

hmmm ur AWB is set in auto mode??? try change to vivd mode...it may "brighten" the pic :)

try shooting in RAW+fine....see if the 2 looks the same...
if the same, it means u need to adjust your setting with more vivd ( means add more saturation when D5k PP the pic, and YES all camera will do some form of PP when we take it in JPG format)
or it could be your monitor prob. ...

actually its ok to do some tweaking, the in camera PP may not suit everyone.

Do you guys turn Active D-Light off? I notice quite a lot of noise on some of my photos. I don't do much post processing, I don't know how much ADL affects the photos.

A lot of photos I took also look like they don't have enough contrast.

What picture control you guys use? I was using vivid +1 saturation for awhile but the photos just didn't look real, some looked muddy dark.

here are some of the better ones taken with vivid.

What you guys think? Not enough contrast? Too saturated? Underexposed? Any comments appreciated.

From Mod - post your pictures in the galleries not here. You show the thread to the pics and ask for comments - like in post #224

Active D-light does produce noise, especially in the shadow areas. It gets alot worse at higher iso ranges, and also degrades the performance of ur images from wad i read online. However, it hardly produces noise at low iso ranges. Majority tend to leave it off though.

there are many other books to read lah...just pick one and read lor. photography basic is always the same and I doubt there are much changes lah.
The one that we cannot learn from the books is how to look at the lighting, the angle, the story.this one we really need someone to guide us along...

Hi all, im a newbie here with my 1st DSLR D5000 bought last nov09 with no regrets :D

I don't know if anyone ever discuss about the question im about to ask...
Which speedlite would be better to pair with my d5k...sb400 or sb600?, as both would not be wirelessly compatible with our d5k, sb900 is way out of my budget. Any advice from fellow d5k users?
