My 1st DSLR, got it 1st hand 2 years ago, still love it, still no plan to upgrade yet. The most important is to gain more knowledges in photography, then upgrade to a better body.

This is my 1ST DSLR 2.5 years ago, is a very good camera, the colour is very good. Is the best in the same price category. D40/D60 still not the real new modal from Nikon that really replace it.

Hi all, i am waiting for a semi-pro full frame nikon or get a used D50 in the mean time.

sorry, i am going OT.

SL6, you own all my dream lens. Your lens are 1.4, 2 and 2.8, dont need to upgrade camera.

85mm afd f1.4, 200 afs f2 and 300 afs f2.8, all produce the best bokeh nikon has to offer.

i am undecided to buy 85mm afd f1.4 or 200 afs f2.

For full body(adult) shots, which has better bokeh, 85mm at 1.4 or 200mm at f2.

In terms of flare, contrast, colour and portrait application, which len do you prefer, 85mm afd f1.4 or 200 afs f2?

i prefer 200mm focal length because i afraid there will be distortion(bigger head) when 85mm is used too close for head shots (full frame). on the other hand, 200mm may be too far for composition. How far for full body(adult) shot on 200m?

Please enlighten me.

Money saved from camera upgrading can goes towards getting better lenses..

Here are a few examples...

Lastly, done with 300mm afs at f2.8

Never have the urge to upgrade...

still using it as my primary camera too! Happy user. :)

Have my D50 since 2003. A very hard working horse. Recently just added a power pack onto it. Get it off from eBay.

HI,

I think is good that if you can get the 85mm first...200 vr first of all is hefty, bulky and will surely see the least usage..full body shot will not be suitable for 200mm..need to stand too far away..

In terms of quality, I feel 200mm is better in many ways..just that is just too heavy to carry around..not easy to hand hold at all..

Is nikon lust after all, in the back of your mind, 200 will always be calling you..once you used it, you will surely like it...

My favourite comes from 300mm afs version I, a superb lens...

Dear D50 user,

D50 is a relatively cheap and good camera. You could use it to overpower the sun.

"When I had a D50 I could get 1/1000 flash sync with the Gadget Infinity remotes."

http://strobist.blogspot.com/2007/05/hacking-your-cameras-sync-speed-pt-1.html

Dear SL6,

85 1.4 is now 1,300
70-200 2.8 is 2,700
200 2 is US3,999
300 (too high, dare not check)

you seems like a prime len guy. however, maybe you have try 70-200 before. optical wise, how is 200 compare to 70-200?

Football photo in newpapers use very long lens, do you think in that aspect, 300 is ideal for runway models?

could you describe the black magic of 200 2?

thank you for your trouble.
