Haha, another proud owner of a D50.. not planning to replace it unless it died on me. ;) I think the size is just right for our hands it's neither too small (d40) nor too big (D300). I can agree it's quite noisy at ISO 800 but i think the noise looks natural compared to other models :dunno:

hello pillarofautumn,
haha yup. at higher ISO, its quite noisy. but regarding the comfort, i prefer the D50. and has more lens that is compatible with it. the D40/x/60 doesnt have the autofocus thing. which is why i chose the d50. cheaper, better and much more comfy.

hey pillarofautumn, SL6, Mexisking and lim8395,

WELCOME TO THE D50 CLUB!

either as backup or primary camera, this D50 works great. but my eyes really hurt when i have to squint to look at the viewfinder. haha.

Learn to shoot with both eyes. ;)

Get a DK-21m.

Money saved from camera upgrading can goes towards getting better lenses..

Here are a few examples...

Lastly, done with 300mm afs at f2.8

Never have the urge to upgrade...

hey good pics SL6. very sharp.
yup the lens are much more important than the camera.
im planning to buy a 55-200mm and 50 f/1.8.
any feedbacks on this 2 lens?

and thanks lsisaxon for the tip.
how much does it cost?

Thank you...

I have not use the 55-200mm, but the 50mm is really good..cant go wrong with it..

DK-21m should be about $30. The problem is finding it. I bought mine from Japan 2 years back for D70s. Try asking Lords, CP or TK to see if they have stock.

Then you won't need to change for a long time. Mine been lasting me for >2 years now! Rubber failing, eyepiece rubber dropping off...., but still works fine. Just need regular maintenance like always.

D50 was my intro to the world of DSLRs. Still keeping it though I have moved on to D300 now!

me too ;)
won it in a competition xD
if i hadn't i'd prolly have never developed an interest in photography :o

the d50.. was my 2nd body after my s1pro died.

wonderful camera though you need to familiarise yourself to get used to the buttons . unlike the d70 or d70s or d80, there is no knob for changing aperture

its a wonderful camera, noisy at iso800 but lovely. this camera has gone through ups and downs with me, abused and care. now at my 40k shutter. this would be a body i would never part with . im saving up for a d80

seriously, the kit lens is good enough for this baby~! i still use it despite having other lenses , and shot weddins using kit lens ;)

i love it so much, its just sad there is no custom curve or better iso control for this beauty

The Nikon D50 is a rugged camera, well built and very comfortable to the grip unlike the D40, D40x, D60 where the grip is kinda small. The D50 also works best with IR photography and I love using it with IR.

d50 with 18-200VR

woah nice pic lim8395.
whats ur feedback on the 18-200mm lens?

nethack, u shot a wedding using a kit lens only?
may i see the pictures if u dont mind?

HOW ABOUT AN OUTING PEOPLE?
haha. i ask too many qtns.

i wuld say the 18-200VR is optically average only lah. AF is slow, especially for events. But for travelling and u want a light setup, the d50 , 18-200 combo is great. VR defn works.

wats everyone's opinion on the 16-85 VR ?

Was in a big dilemma when I was about to get my D50 cos it will be my first cam! Some of the big q's tat I was struggling with were:

1) is it a good cam?
2) beginner cam or semi pro?
3) why it seems like nobody is using this model as compared to D200 (semi-pro) and D40 (beginner)?
4) is it compatible with the bulk of lenses from Nikkor, Tamron & Sigma?

Despite all that seemingly debatable q's I listed above, I bought my 2nd hand D50 based solely on this thought: "I've been waiting for so long to save up to buy a 2nd hand D200 but I will only be able to buy the body only with my current budget, so why dont I start with this and use the money I saved from D200 to buy more lenses to learn photography with? ";p
But come to think of it, I believe the main reason for me was ... I can't wait anymore!!!! Gotta shoot now!!!
