But no significant imrpovement over its megapixels, but 9fps..impressive.. somewhat with an "put u off" hefty price tag, think street price in sg should hovers in the region of $8-9K based on RRP and current exchg rate. (comfortably sit between the old D3 and D3X) -doesn't really appeal to me.. should i choose, i still opt for the old D3..
You forgot the super-high ISO usability...

This new camera comes with a RAW processor... does it mean that you can view the picture on the LCD screen directly after u shot the picture in RAW format, without resorting to RAW+JPEG?

I think the street price would be similar to the D3 when it was released at about $6900-$7000. Now contemplating whether to change back to Nikon :(...

Looks like you've been fooled by the strategy between Nikon and Canon. ;p Yes, and do switch back to Nikon and switch to Canon again when they release the next model that betters Nikon ad nauseum..

Does this means that in about one year from now, Nikon will launch D700s with the same sensor as D3s???

You should be able to view RAW files on the LCD. Some of the older Nikon cameras can do this now. RAW files can be viewed directly on my D300. Not sure of the current D3 though..

I'm not a pro but isn't the D300s sensor Nikon DX format (23.6 x 15.8 mm) which is smaller than the current D700 FX format (35.9 x 24.0 mm) so not possible. Maybe D700s with 15-18Mp, ISO 12,800, 1080i D-movie:lovegrin:

appreciate it if you can stick to the thread topic please - D3s

tks

I think D700s is relevant discussion because it's FX also. The D300s should be a typo and I think emfmfg meant same sensor as D3s. I'll shoot with what I have first and wait and see. Not worth blowing $$ in pro bodies because the shelf life is too short nowadays.

That's simply because they can't before. Now they can and they will!!

Almost night vision! Amazing how technology keeps improving on ISO performance.

It's almost insane!! Such clean ISO12800 performance! I was shooting the constellation of Orion last night at ISO1600 and the shutter speed at 1s at f/1.8 already register the scattering from some high clouds not visible to naked eye! Imagine ISO 12800 which is 3 stops faster!:bigeyes:

a lot of noise from astrophotography comes from the longer exposure which increases the temperature of the CMOS :(

with that 3 stop improvement you can shoot at 1/8s instead :o

As it stated

Contrast detect AF
can be engaged either before or during video recording, and is expected to be a bit quicker to acquire focus than other video-capable Nikons.

agree.

now the next benchmark is iso 12800.
oh well such a camera is out of my range...i rather spend 7k on a holiday to shoot pictures. ha
but im just a serious amerature. pros surely will want this.

if 1 day i got too much cash / or i turn pro (less likely) ...then i will buy one.

but if 3 years down the line d3s becomes less than 1k. like the current d1 now...i would buy to play play haha

heh heh isn't that cool!

Just a silly question:

Since the size of the sensor is the same between D3x and D3s (36x24mm), but the resolution of D3x is twice that of D3s (24.5 MP vs 12.1 MP), does that mean the D3s has a bigger pixel size? If so, could that not explain the higher ISO sensitivity?
