Nikon D3200 users thread

yeap it really is..but it lacks features though...such as interval mode and it has very little scene modes as well.

You can see some of the shots i took with it at http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/land-city-scapes-travel/1118553-little-trip-ukraine-germany.html

this is good...

lacks features though...such as interval mode and it has very little scene modes as well???? so D5100 better or D7000?

Wow got Miniature effect.

Wah sei man after reviews your photos and you never noted the photos with taken with D3200, I can't imaging that.

Haha i did mention that i was using a D3200 at the very beginning ,see first post =) i hope they are not bad?

if you want features ill go for either the d7000 or d5100, if video is impt, the d5100..because of its swivel screen...d7000 has very good build quality and has alot of features definitely consider it too..if you really want the diff scene modes but do note its a 2 year old camera . i have a feeling an update will be out soon. Honestly try out all 3 cameras and see which one suits your needs more, consider what kind of pictures you want to take and get the camera best suited to doing so...same with lenses...all 3 has their pros and cons.

for me im on a budget and since i dont want t o spend so much on the body ,since good lenses are important also..and i take most of my shots in raw and post process it so i dont really need that many scene modes.

seems like alot of ppl stressing over the d3200 /d5100 /d7000 decision

No stress if they already have a camera... lol Just wait a bit longer, the 24MP will slowly permeate to the rest of the higher-end bodies, unless Nikon decides to drop out of the crop body race or stop going 24MP for all future bodies...

D3200 is a good buy lah, but it will require an overhaul on your computers and storage devices if you shoot a lot of images in one go (in NEF format). Just like D800/E. For those who have been accustomed to 12 to 16MP images, they will find this a bit "shocking" as their storage will eat up faster than the usual pace. Either upgrade your storage devices/computer systems OR shoot lesser than usual... :bsmilie:

hmm raw files are generally 20mb? dunno if thats alot but i heard from my friend who is using a canon 7d that his raw files are around the same in size. what do you mean exactly by overhaul? new processor? graphic cards? i think the main concern is storage size, because youll be dealing with 20 mb files. My 2009 MBP can handle those files no problem. i usually carry around my WD 500gb drive along with me for storage. But i do recommend a fast SD card for better performance especially if you are taking many shots in fast succession . Im using a class 10 Sandisk extreme III 16gb, handles about 550++ shots in raw.

Interesting! I'd gather a 24MP NEF would be bigger? Generally, all the 12MP hovered around 9MB to 20MBs at most! All your 24MPs are just 20MB? Hmmm... something does not add up... Are you using Uncompressed, Loss-less? The biggest NEF the D800 can generate is 70++MB per file!... That sounds about right given the high MP... Maybe your 20MB size is at the lower end of the spectrum? Or is the NEF from the D3200 isn't what it seems...

Interesting indeed!

I don't know where or how your Canon friend gets his RAW images, but RAW or NEF sizes WILL depend how big your MP is. It shouldn't be standard sizing across all different MP sizes.

Just simple google on Canon RAW sizes: Canon DLC: Article Print: EOS Quick Tip: "Small" RAW Image Files

is enough to tell you, RAW files will depend on MP sizes no matter what, unless you're not using the highest resolution setting...

I'd like the High ISO... :D

Hope I do not sound like I'm slamming on D3200. :bsmilie: For an entry-level, surely Nikon is making the competition sweat big time. And probably enticing those who are making their first move into DSLRs. Coupled with the wireless module and some of the specs (4 FPS and High ISO), it is pretty hard to beat. As such, I'm sure a number of us are interested to see how Nikon implement of these features into their future bodies (D5200, D7100, D400, D600, etc)... Therefore, good to wait if you do not need to get a DSLR right now.

Regardless, keep shooting and stop worrying about the specs - UNTIL you ran out of storage that is... :bsmilie:

well for a 6080 x 4012 image size the file size is just 19.38MB from my d3200 yeap..

Then it's very likely a dumb down version of NEF to save storage space (I understand that D3200 only offers 12-bit NEF compressed, no 14-bit uncompressed lossless offered). Lets wait and see when the D600 (24MP) comes up and compare the images side by side, shall we? :)

I had an opportunity to play with D3200 as I rented it last week. I have D700 but I need a video camera for the event.

I briefly tried its photo capability, but I was disappointed that it couldn't focus with a variable ND filter in front (the AF keep hunting & eventually give up). The AF of D700, OTOH, locks on instantly using the same variable ND. I know its unfair to compare prosumer body with entry level, but you just can't help comparing & sometimes frustrated when using both in the field at the same time. I'm sure its a great camera for many people. :D

Anyway I used this camera exclusively for this video & it doesn't disappoint.
