i bought mine at a high class european shop called "parisilk"...got paris got silk sure must be upmarket. but the price is good ard $750 for body and 18-55mm kit lens. plus free 8g sd card.

now thinking shd i buy a dry box or use good tupperware with silica gel :think:

So you getting hooked on to the BBB virus? I had my camera for half a year now, but no dry box. I just try to take it out regularly.

yeah i know gd price. no lah no bbb virus yet but a bit itchy...now want to buy AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-E :sweat:

wonder if the 3rd party ones are just as gd as nikkor but cheaper...

I'd rather go for Nikkor. If you are concerned about price, can always go for second hand. Got mine at $280. THough it was about 6 months old when I bought it, at least I'm assured of better quality than 3rd party lenses.

Even if you get first hand, is the price difference from 3rd party lenses a lot?

dunno yet need to check out the sigma 30mm as well. yup tot of getting 2nd hand...look see look see 1st.

The place with the most possibility of getting just the D3k body is HERE.

Alternatively, you can buy a kit new, and sell the kit lens.

All the lenses which have "AF-S" in their names will work on d3000.. since d3000 does not have a built-in AF motor, so other AF lenses wouldn't work

Sorry if this is kinda noobish as I am also considering a D3000, as I was quoted rather good prices.

1. So AF-S lenses works on d3000, but AF lenses won't work on D3000, so does AF-S lens works for other models of Nikon?

2. I am very interested in taking night scenery shots, have anyone tried taking such shots, say for example of Clarke Quay? Is it nice taken with a D3000?

1. AF, AF-D lenses still work on D3000, just that you have to use manual focusing. You will still get metering functions, and you can control the aperture using the command dial. AF-S lenses work on all current Nikon cameras.

2. It will be nice, if taken properly. In the end it is the photographer and his/her skills that matter more. I have taken such shots with a D40x, the earlier brother of the D3000 (similar sensor inside).

Anyway I wanted to ask a question about D3000 operation.
Had a D90 outing recently, and whilst shooting, a tourist couple asked for some help to set the camera properly. It was overexposing badly.

Anyway I notice the EV compensation was set to +5 (duh...), but in Manual Exposure mode, I was unable to reduce the EV value. If I held down the EV button and turned the command dial, the aperture value would change (correct, for a camera with only one dial).
In the end I had to change to Aperture priority mode, then dial down the EV to 0, then turn back to Manual so that I could meter accurately.

Just wondering: is there any shorter way to do this?

hahaha yeah, coz on the D90 the EV compensation is only for EV compensation. I was surprised at first when I pressed EV and turned the command dial and the aperture value changed, then realised D3k got no sub dial

Hehe... actually I'm not sure anymore. Cos recently am a proud owner of Tammy 18-270. In my opinion, the large part of it seemed better than the Nikkor 18-200. (Especially the VC).
