if its the nikon tripod don't bother. its flimsy and i wouldn't want to leave my d80, let alone a d300, on it with a big lens and flash attached

It's a good basic lens to own. I tried my friend's 18-200 for a few weeks and found it useful, though quality at 200 mm is not too good.

If thats your subject i think theres no need for you to get a 18-200. You can just use 18-70 or 16-85 for that.

Unlike the D700, I think the D90 is gonna have lesser impact on the price of D300.

Yeah your right it might be lesser but it might be big also since the D90 shares some important specs upgrade that the d300 also have with a cheaper price. (ex. liveview, 3" VGA LCD, etc)
