Today (22 Nov 03) I checked with Cathay boss (who knows me) on the price of the D2H .. He said around S$5,900. Checked with Samuel at John 3:16 he says around S$5,888. So its nowhere near S$5,200. Estimated price by the time stock is available is around $5,800 maybe later it would drop to $5,500.

Apparently there are more than 30 people on the waiting list at Cathay. Cathay has 3 pieces, all gone. John 3:16 had 2 pieces, last one went this pm. New stock in by early Dec 03.

However, both advised to wait till stock eases and bugs to be ironed out.

The 20% off the SRP is the "normal" practice in the market. But if it doesn't matches, it's just because of the market forces, demand > supply, or Nikon Singapore is not giving bigger margins due to new product. Morever, given the strong demand and long waiting list, it makes sense not to sell cheap, at least for now.

And I am a bit disturbed by your last sentence, why "both advised to wait till stock eases and bugs to be ironed out"?

As per any new products, there might be bugs or whatsoever, but could you substantiate your claim? Or you mean D2H is now full of bugs?

Bugs schmugs.

I learned to live with a faulty meter on a Canon FT QL. Bugs are no surprise to me. Just adapt lor.

Anyway, I'll wait a bit for the D2H. No money now, besides will only need the camera near end of next year's expedition to Sarawak. AJ, wanna come? U can wear a safari hat and a pair of pants - with leeches on your tummy!

Yum!

Oh oh.. come'on guys, go get it...

and sell me ur 10D...

Are you saying both CP and John 3:16 both advised you to wait till stock eases and bugs to be ironed out?

Yeap .. anyway its just general advise .. no one knows if there are really any bugs .. but its just good general advise on new products .. They are just referring to some of the other products that had a few firmware updates to get things right .. So it may well happen to the D2H ..

I would think they are right, given how the firmware was delayed till quite late, I'm sure that there will be updates a few months down the road.

Unless you have an urgent need to have one now, or be the first few, its always a good practice to hold on a few months and let the rest be the geninea pigs to find out the bugs .. and pay the premium to do so.

A more rational approach would be to wait for Feb 04, PMA to see what is announced .. S3 Pro? D200? D2X? EOS1D replacement?

If its still the D2H, by that time, the supply would have eased and maybe some updates be available. Also others would have found the best ways to use the camera.

Feb 04 is only 3 months down the road ..

Saw someone bought a D2H from AP today

the box is huge...bigger than my 10D
Hmm... I somehow get a feeling it was me you saw today.
Since AP has only 1 D2H left and I was "playing" with it for hours at the back of the shop.

And No, I did not buy the D2H, so would be buyers are free to rush down to AP to get the last set.

Was informed that next shipment may not be that fast.
(BTW AP only got hold of 2 sets, so I can assume stocks are very limited)

Very good camera and very addictive to use. ;p

WOW!
so what's going to happen to D1x?

Do you think D1x will be gone?
I think the answer is no, D1X and D2H are suppose to be in different class. ;)

Correct me if I'm wrong. :D

Ah ha! You have bought the camera, now you have joined the dark side and must spend $$$ on the lenses! The Dark Council's Standing Order demands that you buy at least 1 more lens >$1k within 1 week of owning the new Dark Side device!

There are many here that can let you try these lenses out. You must BUY! BUY! BUY!

:D

That's why i'm never gonna join the dark side man.. Phew.. :blah:

Its time to start gathering resources for the d2x... ;)

watcher: I don't print money, but if you have a 17-35 mm to loan me, I'd be happy enough

D2x is rumoured next year right? Got a feeling it's another long wait ;)

Hi all experts,

Think "scanner" has poses a relatively good question here? D1x and D2H is kinda of different class?

Can some experts here pls enlighten us?

Thank You.

Cheers!

Basically, from what I understand, is that the D*h series are more of a sports camera due to it's fast shutter speed, compared to the D*x series, it's more of a professional kind of camera, one that's all rounded for all kinds of shoot.

Correct me if I'm wrong :)

I don't have a 17-35 but  my 12-24 :D . After all, you have just spent >$5500, why not a little more for a good lens say 24-120 VR or AF-S 80-200 ;) :blah:

espn, tks for that info. Lets see what other experts has got to tell.

I'm quite sure there are other readers would like to know the true differences between the two 'D' series.

Cheers!
