Microdrive is sort of a small HDD type, it drains more battery then using a CF card.

The upside about using the MD is that it has a larger capacity available right now, at 4.2GB (akan datang), the CF currently in the market is at 2GB, the 4GB series will be coming soon.

Given that the CF is gaining speed and storage size, down the road the CF is a cheaper alternative to your battery power and storage solutions :)

Just my 0.02 cents

Hey, I think this might be a sotong question but what is the difference between using a CF or a microdrive?

Some say that a microdrive might be more fragile than a CF.

Which is better to use on a 5700?

Thanks :)

In addition, CF is Type I, MD is Type II (slightly thicker). MD drains more battery power and is slower in read/write than current CF models. Dropping your MD or rough handling will likely damage your drive since it is mechanical. :)

Thanks all!

knowing my luck at crashing anything the first time round (even OS X when I first installed it...though it is the sweetest OS now!), I'll stick to a CF... no point draining my batteries too, seeing how the 5700 does it so "efficiently" without an MD in it! :D

Thanks again

I do hope you're surviving the 5700 with it's battery pack :bsmilie: :)

Oh yes! definitely! :bsmilie:
They had to have a reason for creating a "vertical grip"... heehee!

TC-E15ED S$170 from AP. Good quality build, feels solid. Has 58mm thread at the front. Gives 1.5x.
TCON 17 S$135 from AP. Quality outlook feels cheap. Both end covers will get loose over time. No front thread. Gives 1.7x. Bulkier.

Quality of pictures produced are more or less equal.

The best bet, get both. Screw the TCON17 to the E15ED via 58->55 step-down. :D

was at AP & CP just now looking for the original UR-E8 and TC-E15ED, no stock for original UR-E8 and AP offered the 3rd party ones.......guess what they don fit the TC-E15ED. :thumbsd: whats wrong with those guys, don even know what they're selling

and they quote me SGD230 for TC-E15ED :dunno:

Anywhere u guys know that sell the "Original" UR-E8 or must go online ? :dunno:

no wonder :blah:

Just bought a Nikon 5700 yesterday.

consider buying an extra CF card.

thinking of buying Hagiwara 512 MB CF.

any1 used it b4 on a Nikon 5700?

What type of CF are you using currently?

saw on dpreview that certain brand of CF have problems on Nikon 5700. any1 have any problem with Hagiwara?

Also, considering buying extra battery (3rd party) or battery pack (Maha powerbank) from Eastgear. I dun think I will buy the battery grip (too bulky 4 me)

Any1 used Maha powerbank b4 on Nikon 5700?

Thanks
Darkspade

Am using Transcend 25X with my CP5700. No known problems with what CF brand whatsoever.

I would advise against not buying the battery grip. It's frankly very useful and supplies power continously for shooting.

I've not used the maha powerbank on the 5700 before. :) Sorry can't help there.

Still $1500+ ? Get the Minolta A1 instead :)

If anyone going to get the Batt Pack MB-E5700, can tag along? Went to CP and guy quoted 200 for it....any better place for better price?

actually, I am looking for comments on CF more than battery.

but seems like more ppl commented on the battery portion.

I managed to found this article on dpreview with very detail comparison of CF on nikon 5700 (url below)

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1007&message=5434712

After consulting the article, I probably will buy 2 pcs of Transcend 30X 512MB CF. Any shop to recommend to buy the CF? I saw on eastgear that they selling at $220 any place lower? Any1 know what speed is hagiwara CF? 12X or more? I heard that you can't get a lot of improvement of speed for those CF 12X or more cos limited by 5700 internal CF speed.

b4 buying the nikon 5700, i actually considered olympus c750 'cos it is much lighter ... however, i finally gave in to the swivel LCD+CF+5MP advantage of nikon 5700 over olymupus c750.

for the battery, I will most likely buy a spare and tag along a lithium for emergency OR I will go for the maha powerbank 'cos it can remain in out of my hands through the belt-clip.

Thanks for all the comments given.
