nikon colors & skin tones

I think the SCREEN in which the pictures are view is also important.
I think many a times ... people love to be critics but no hardware to support. =)

Let's not go into the Nikon vs. Fuji skin tone colors war.

Personally, I feel that both systems (or brands) compromise each other instead of compete. For portraiture, I will grab my S5 Pro. However, for commercial or architecture assignments, I will rent a D3.

hmm ... I tend to switch between the PT, LS mode and the D2X mode. =)

Just to add, when u consider the skin tones, even the lens play a big part.. Based on my personal experience, Nikon is usually more yellowish. Canon usually more pinkish. Thus, Nikon more suitable for landscapes as it's more saturated and canon gives better skin tones.

I tend to agree that Nikon has a yellow bias (well, that's the colour of their logo, what to do...) That's why I am very glad for Picture Control in the newer cameras, which allow you to use the D2xModes, mode I in particular removes the yellow and replace it with a slight pinkish tone. Very nicely done, IMHO.

No worries, no war going on here -- the only one is in Afghanistan...

No doubt colour is a very subjective thing. I am just glad that Nikon has Picture Control in the new cameras; you do need different tone curves for different applications. You are also free to modify and set up your own curves, so what is there not to like?

One good thing about D300 is the "Picture Control" settings. Try installing and using the 'D2x Mode I' and 'Portrait' settings and you'll get immediate good results of skin tone.

now that's a solution =) anyone has samples to show the skin tones using "D2X mode 1"?

S5pro is worrying because it seem fuji has stop their line of DSLR and i haven't really tired Fuji cameras before.

D300 is a wonderful camera and the prices have drop quite abit now that D700 came out so did the s5pro. someone mentioned about the S5pro being still 6mp. I suppose if i plan to shoot only people and landscape and not sports or action, the S5 should be fine but The D300 seem like a great all rounder.

for the time being any one has a way round beter tones on the D80? I aint gonna PP all 300 photos from weddings for the skin tones :bsmilie:

think there is a preset for lightroom

http://www.OneThirdStop.com
Lightroom D2X mode 1/2/3 presets released for Nikon D200, D300, D2X, D2Xs

Photoshop also has a plugin for raw conversion that has the simulated modes. Can't recall what it is call, but I have installed in my system.

Haven't played with it enough to characterise the simulated modes.

Try this page. Says "The new Adobe Standard and Camera Matching camera profiles require Camera Raw 4.5 / Lightroom 2.0 or later". I am using Camera Raw 4.5 with my Elements 6.0, and the interface is similar to what you'll see at the page, but not with all the options.

Hope this helps.
