hiya

why a 1.7x telecon?
why doesn't nikon release a teleconverter with selectable multipliers ?
Something like making zoom for primes...
Even better if they add VR into the telecon itself...

Guess you'll have to ask Nikon about it.

Using a TC slightly degrades the images already, imagine the TC is a zoom TC, I guess the quality will degrade further, no?

And the lens already has VR, why build it into the TC? The TC's job is to do focal length extension, the lens is still the glass doing the AF so the VR should be at the lens, not the TC :)

If strike, pls hire Zhang Zi Yi to Singapore for photo shoot! Can also test the sharpness of your brand new 200mm f2 at the same time.

However, Nikon chose not to do so but rather going full fledged 35x24 image circle.
Hence, my speculation about next generation Nikon DSLR.

Maybe Nikon realizes that it still needs to keep the film photographers happy? APS sensor DSLR's only really lose out in the wide range, not the telephoto range. This lens would effectively become a 300mm F/2 with the APS sensor. That's not going to stop anybody from buying it.

This is a bit of very, very bad news as far as I'm concerned. In fact, strangely enough the TC seems to be the only piece of good news that I can see (actually, the TC couple *with* the new lens). But no, not a good day.

Nikon can build this lens smaller and lighter (as well as cheaper) if it is in DX format due to reduced image size.
See Olympus E-1 (4/3rd) lens system for comparative example.

Plus that the TC-17E II is also 34x24 image circle instead of DX format.

hehe, bulk of nikon users still shoot film yoh... it would be a shame to have something this nice be a dx format, especially when it doesn't need to be.
