After calibration, it's perfect? Hmm, I really hope so though.. So far what I heard, the calibration helps the focusing problem in short distance, but for longer distance, the focusing problem will still there. That's what worries me the most.

well..as i stated above,i dont have the 50 but do have the sigma 30.after the calibration its been perfect! focus is fast and dead on. the 50 and the 30 is quite similar in sharpness, color and contrass.

maybe this would help,it's not compared directly to nikon 50 but maybe you'll get the idea. >> http://www.pbase.com/lightrules/50f14ex

After a few more days of usage, I definitely get OOF shots with both, more so than I would have expected (my Sigma 30 f1.4, for example, is significantly more reliable). I find that the Canon really struggles to nail AF in harsh lighting more so than the Sigma; however, I find that the Sigma renders a good number of misfocused shots for subjects within a few feet. Strangely, it nails AF more accurately at infinity than close up. I basically notice a front-focusing issue with a good number of my images for closer subjects with the Sigma. If I use MF, it's quite impressive.

Apparently Sigma 30mm f1.4 is more reliable.. I am still waiting for more images from Sigma 50mm to convince that this is the lens that I should get hehe..

sigma 30 1.4:thumbsup: you wont regret it!

I was at TK foto yesterday, tried Sigma 50mm, yet another one with front focus. Should I just grab the lens and expect calibration from Sigma to be perfect?

If u using dx get 30mm f1.4. No worries for sigma lensesnow they provide free calibrations for their lenses.

I'm looking for a 50mm lens though. Reason is, bokeh is better because of the longer focal length :D

For wide angle shot, I will use my Tamron 17-50

No regrets on purchasing SIGMA 50mm f1.4 over Nikon AFS, after I bought I go straight to calibrate it over my D700. The results are very good, see sample picture.

Great pic. After reading a few reviews about 50mm f1.4G, seems like I'm going to pass on that lens..

Now I am hunting for a good copy of Sigma 50mm :D Hopefully I can get a good one soon. Or at least not too bad one

I bought this lens in HK early this month and used it during my trip to KL 2 weekends ago. No calibration has been done to this glass. Here's some samples...

Wow.. So Sharp. How much do you get in HK?

Do you have any image with distance of 3 meters or more?

Unfortunately, those shots with more than 3m distance are private... I believe you may have seen samples here.

I paid HKD 3600.00 for the Sigma lens with international warranty using credit card. It then shows SGD 686.23 on the credit card bill.

It may be a sales gimmick, the shop gave me a Sigma cleaning cloth free. Another happy customer :bsmilie:

That's cheap

Maybe I should consider getting this lens in Malaysia, it might be cheaper there

I own Nikon 50/1.4 AF-S
this lens is not really sharp at F1.4 - F1.8
starting at F2 the sharpness is getting better.
the AF Speed?? VERY SLOWWWWW :)

here is an example from this lens
taken with D3X

To me, it does look like the Nikon lens performed better ^^

Then again Flickr likes to sharpen pics so I don't think its that good a gauge to measure sharpness/IQ in general.

hmmm i think is a matter of personal preferences...the 2 are very on par...with their own fallbacks
never knew flickr sharpen pics ^^

I can't decide also which to get between the two lens:dunno:
