Nikon AFS 24mm f1.4G

K. R0ckwe11 would do that handheld without batting an eyelid, he who can shoot a handheld 600mm lens rock steady at 1/2s, it stands to reason he can handhold a WA lens forever.

handheld 600 mm lens rock steady at 1/2 seconds ?

That guy doesn't need Tripod forever ;)

*ahem*...*cough*...*cough*...BS...

anyway, i had a chance to play with one just now. just 2 snaps straight from cam. click on the images themselves for the original pics. crazily thin DOF @ f1.4... but the bokeh is :o

i think i focused on 'coffee'.... but you can see how thin the DOF is. since the cup was slopping, the rest of the words are ever so slightly blurred.

this lens is just crazy.... but at least now i know why wedding photogs want this. :)

Arr arr :) I'm happy with my 28... of course it's obsolete now with this new lens :(

This is what I am looking for (i.e. test shots).

You must be referring to this? In all your experience, it didn't occur to you the blur in the reflection was induced by the moving water? You think a larger aperture (shallower depth of field) will cause bottom half the frame to be out of focussed?

...sure thanks for clarifying...the water must have been very 'calm' when you took it.....but I still think its a poor image because of the blur - whatever the cause of the blur....speechless or otherwise.

Actually, one thing the 24 has over the 28 is 10cm more mfd, which I hadn't noticed until now. Didn't think to compare when I had the two of them in hand, doh.

That's fine with me (your perception of the photo) as I don't loose sleep over things I can't control.

A faster wide prime definitely opens up more creative options for existing nikon users, which i am sure users of 24L will agree. A 2 stop difference from the usual 2.8 prime can give lovely subject isolation admist a wide take. Thanks nightwolf75 for the test shots - very creamy!

i've actually tried canon's 50 and 85 f1.2L. those are , if u can get the focus just right.

wat i really want to see is nikon updating the 35/1.4 AIS... tho i think the price will also be in the neighbourhood of the 24/1.4. :bheart:

Thanks for the pics nightwolf. Nice! Now, if only it weren't so pricey...

I know Kenrockwell has posted this lens in his website, but ...

Anyone own and have tested the Barrel Distortion of this lens by themselves ?

well, here's quick and dirt result from normal chart and 100% crop from 12mpx file. All taken wide open at f/1.4
First impression is quite surprise with their new packaging, now it comes with plastic cover, not so eco-friendly :)

but anyway, really satisfied with the result, worth every dollar i spent :) tack sharp even at open wide and at infinity. more picture coming...
