After getting 18-200mm VR, 70-300mm VR, Tamron 18-50mm and Tamron 90mm.....i would say it has retired in my dry cabinet as a "I've got that too!" lens :bsmilie:

Gotta catch them all!!

:think::think: and your point is?

hmmmm...
think he is tryin to say tis len is good n he has it too

I had the lens, but sold it away.

Reasons are pretty simple actually; first of all, 50mm on DX is an awkward focal length. Most of the time when I used it I've always either hoped it was a wee bit shorter (30 or 35mm), or longer (85mm). I used to use it for full body portraits, but felt that the focal length was too short- always had to move towards the subject, which essentially scares the subject off.

In the end I bought a 85mm 1.8, and loved it so much more.

I love the 50mm f1.8 and the main attraction to me is the sharpness that such a light portable lens can deliver. Colour reproduction is also not too bad.

I have used this lens for half a year now and I always carry this lens with my 18-200VR for holidays. I can always tell which lens the photo is taken by as the colours and sharpness of the photos from this 50mm always stands out. I even give my tamron 90mm a miss if my subject can be shot with a 50mm.

My main use for this lens are:

(1) facial/half-portraits
(2) food shots
(3) pets
(4) generally my first choice of lens if the subject matter can accommodate the focal lenght.

in some ways, this thread has somehow created a bond with all 50mm lens users here....appreciate the inputs guys & gals....keep the spirit up:)

Currently using the lens, quite good although I am saving up for the 1.4 version since the 1.8 belongs to a good friend of mine :)

If the f1.8 is good, why need to get the f1.4?

can use it for taking shots for stitching into panoramic image... it has very very low distortion... lower than even the 1.4...

Me.. I use b4 a 50mm F1.8.. but sold for a f1.4. Reason is since I got the 50mm I have be using it for like 70% of the time to capture my newborn gal. Thats why justify myself to get the f1.4.

Anyway, used it mainly for potriat shots. And always in my bag when I go out with the Cam ;p

I most of the time use it for Night Street Photography.

can anyone tel me wat function is this? thanks ^^

good move

dont b like me go from 1.8 to 1.4.
go straight for 1.4 if u hav the need for it

you have to set the aperture to lock at the minimum and select the desired aperture on your camera body using the A, S or M mode....
for camera bodies nowadays, always set to minimum or else camera body will show error....

this aperture setting is for older manual bodies that can select aperture on the lens.

this lens is very good for portrait... the bokeh is very creamy and nice....
if you have not got one, recommend you to get it and you will love it...
its one of the most value for money lens... :)

This is a MUST have for all camera owners, either own or owned everyone should have/had it!

This lens is one of the main reasons why I bought the D80 and sold off my D40. Have this lens on the D80 most of the times because I usually shoot portraits of our daughter. I love the bokeh where our daughter stands out clearly against the blurred background. Plus this lens is metal mount. Really good value.
