This thread is about Nikkors :) Shush about Tamron "trinity" or Tokina "trinity" :bsmilie:

Wahh... Bro, strike 4D/ Toto/ Big Sweep top prize is it?? I've done a rough calculation, and even based on Grey Set pricing, also need to pay bout $6K - $7K...

Anyway  for you. Maybe can add 1 more to the collection a 200-400mm;) and you'll not need to buy anymore zoom lenses for the rest of your photography life, unless you're not getting another Nikkor...:bsmilie:

No lah.. no play 4D....

I truly believe that the photographer is the real reason behind good pics and that great lenses like those that i said though play a part, does not guarantee great pics...

I am only an amatuer, sometimes i don't even dare to post my pictures here. But i reckon since this is a hobby that I like, may as well invest in it now...

I have the 17-35, it really shines when i shoot indoors during traveling and the tripod is not allowed.

How about 18-55 55-200

or 18-70 70-300

Heh. Budget setups that cover all the range you need :P

Unfortunately no f/4 variants like what you find in a particular competitor's lineup or lenses.

Yah.. that's a concern for me as well.... but I am trying to avoid Dx lenses now as I waiting for a full frame from Nikon...

Im not sure what the salesman is trying to tell you, but it is my experience and hearsay from others that the motor in AFS lenses may sometimes give way to wear and tear and malfunction, giving rise to a screeching noise when focussing.

At present, it appears from more hearsay that the screeching sound is a prelude to a total malfunction of the focussing mechamism.

I have a 28-70 lens that was fine when I bought it, and later on, developed the screeching sound. Having the sound alone does not impair the function of the focussing mechanism, although it may be a bit irritating and noisy.

For my lens, it is still functioning fine, and after some time, it miraculously recovered itself, now there's no more screeching sound. I have not reached the total malfunction stage.

A quote from NSC shows that it would cost aout S$800.00 to fix the AFS mechanism.

Hope this information gives more assistance.

Mine developed the screeching sound too after awhile which did not impair anything until my AFS mechanism developed problem. This was replaced by NSC at $750. The screeching noise wasn't resolved even though I informed but subsequently at my insistance was resolved. Reason was the grease was drying up or has dried up owing to low usage and in the dry cabinet. I shoot about 4 to 5 times a year and which so many lenses and bodies to rotate, I reckon I did ask for it. Now I 'exercise' them once a month at home to keep them 'healthy'.

This lens is very sharp
The contrast is out of this world
The colour will blow your mind away
F/2.8 throughout zoom range is a wet dream come through :bsmilie:

makes you look PRO too :bsmilie:

I used to have the trinity, but now my 28-70 was replaced by the 85mm F/1.4D because my job requires me to shoot lots of portraits. If you want to close the gab between the 17-35 and 70-200, the 28-70 is there for the job and no other zoom lens with such great performance will probably replace right now. No mistake about it.

Yup... choice. I am also holding out for Nikon to unveil their Full Frames. And those glasses you intend to buy is surely a worthy investment. I'm also stashing aside $$ for these lenses. Happy stashing...:bsmilie:

From the looks of things, think I better start "flexing" my lenses too. :bsmilie:

It won't hurt to take up 15 minutes a week to take out all your gear for a quick once-over and fire off a few frames.

Heh. Happy waiting. When it comes, it ain't going to come cheap. But I reckon it should be well worth its cost if some of the rumours and hearsay about the technology holds true.

Nothing much to shoot in SG and MY leh..

hmmm...better search for this guys thread "AZURE" his AG outings managed to show singapore to a foreigner like. I also thought that there are only a few things I can see at SG but upon viewing his thread, I was humbly wrong...well, that's just me :)

I do believe there are things to shoot in SG but most of the time they are quite out of the way for someone like me who don't own a car. Also, timing is very important.

Usually if you're out just to shoot, it's not a problem. For me, I only shoot when I get to and usually time is very short. There are many times when I see good material but camera is not with me, usually on my way home from work, that's during the golden hour! Sometimes, I just feel like I should have been shooting and not commuting. ;p Still, after a while, things get boring also. I just looked through Azure's Singapore Scenic gallery. I'd have to say the shots are very good. However, no offence intended, it's easy to get bored shooting these.

For MY, things are a bit too cluttered and messy and you will need to find good spots to shoot. Plus it's mostly green in the tropics.

For the temperate countries in late spring or early summer, everything is so colourful, it's already a plus point, everywhere you go seems a nice scenery, maybe because everything is new. ;p

I was also told by Nikon that the screeching noice was due to dry grease. This might be true is some cases, but in mine, the SWM did fail, and on 2 of my lenses after they started screeching. Luckily one was still under warranty.

If the lens is screeching, don't buy it. It might be dry grease or it might be prelude to total failure.

BTW, the 28-70 is a great lens.

BTW, anybody knows whether it's possible to re-grease ? Who to send to, how much and most importantly, is it advisible to do so ?

Sorry for asking like a machine gun. But 1 of my lenses also start to have screeching ... :-(

Dont think so, NSC says it costs 7-800 to fix this problem - think they jsut change the whole thing, as is typical with local service centres.

Any idea what's the price for the Nikon AF-S 28 - 70mm F2.8D IF-ED lens going for ?

Thanks a million ...

gil:confused:

2.4k there abouts.

MAke sure the warranty is from Nikon Singapore. I believe it wouldn't be so cheap.
