i recently bought the sigma 10-20mm for my nikon d200... you can get very good price at OP... $720 only... the other shops are selling $8xx... to me was quite a good buy.

10-20 sigma is good... got one for 700++...

Hrmm, should I be concerned about the number of diaphragm blades? The more blades, the better the bokeh right? Should that even be a concern though...?

At such a short focal length, you have to be really close for bokeh to be obvious. As a general rule, when there are an odd number of aperture diaphragm blades, the bokeh is usually smoother and more pleasant to look at, and highlights in the bokeh are usually more rounded.

An exception is my 50mm f/1.8, which has a 5-bladed, non-circular aperture diaphragm. This means that the highlights in the bokeh look pentagonal - quite distracting at times. I personally prefer 7 or 9 aperture blades, but you can't always have it your way.

Is the coating of Sigma 10-20 really easy to peel off?

I'm in the same situation too. Deciding between Sigma 10-20 or Tokina 12-24.

Can anyone give me more idea?

No, it's not easy to peel off. It wears off with time, but only some users encounter it.

What other ideas would you like?

This thread has been really helpful to those ppl who are torn between this wide angle lens.

My question is this: let just say that you have enough money to get the 10-20. would you rather get the grey set or the one with warranty.

I know its a personal choice but still wanted to hear your opinion/s. The difference is about SGD150 (in which I could buy Gary Foong -- did i spell his name correclty? -- Flash Dome for my flash) I have already decided to get the Sigma 10-20 because of it is basically wider than Nikon/Tokina/Tamron but I am torn whether to get the grey set or the one with warranty...

thanks...

No, i have seen the coating really peel off, left the shinny silver metal exposed.

Basically the price of Sigma 10-20 and Tokina 12-24 is about the same. I just can't decide between two

Sigma strengths:
1) HSM
2) extra 2mm in wide end
3) 24cm focusing distance rather than 30cm of Tokina

Tokina Strengths
1) Build quality
2) Constant f4 aperture
3) Better QC (less samples variation)

Any idea?

tell me

why no one considaring tanrom 11-18mm ???

Get the Tokina 12mm-24mm Better build & better image quality:thumbsup:

More expensive than the other two
Notably softer than the other two
Build cannot even be compared; the Sigma and Tokina are a different breed from the Tamron.
