A and B both at same setting of ISO 1600 f5.6 1/60 @200mm. Focusing speed for both was quite slow because of this spot which I picked. It feels about the same to me.

Not mentioning which pic from which lens, I think my assessment is that it is not really justifiable for me to replace my current 70-300 VR with this lens, as it cost $1200 more. Sharpness is really close too. I personally do not think it is worth that much more than the 70-300 VR. Plus point for this lens is the excellent VR and lightweight, which I wouldn't have any qualms bringing it out any day.[/QUOTE]

If you currently do not own a lens in this range and is looking for one, I am sure you will not be disappointed with this f4 lens. My comments above are more for personal preference, as I have been pondering whether to upgrade my 70-300 as it is my most used lens for the past half year. I will save up more for the f2.8. $1.7k is not a cheap pricing at all and by saving up a while more, I can actually get the f2.8. For those on the fence, if you don't shoot professionally, do spend some time to ponder first instead of plunging in, because from what I see, most hobbyist have lens of this range in the dry cabinet most of the time.

Bro focus point I choose, not camera choose. It's at AF-A single.

Yup what bro Ijnek said is true. There are variables. I don't shoot test charts ever, so it was shot how I would normally. I was not disappointed with the result, in fact it is good, but not enough to make me have the urge to switch. As mentioned earlier, it's my most used focal length currently, so I naturally compare it with what I have now. Go try it out yourself, it's free

oh ok. i was under the impression that AF-S is the setting used for user selection of focus points while AF-A, its the camera who chooses.

A good used 70-200 f2.8 vr1 is a much better buy at 1.7k

Agreed, tested it out too at NSC but got too many lenses lying around.

1st time buyer/user for 70-200, this F4 VR is recommended if you don't mind the price as the size and weight has taken care by itself.

To me, if you don't shoot in low light condition, it does not make a difference between f/4 & f/2.8.

To me, if you don't shoot in low light condition, it does not make a difference between f/4 & f/2.8.

If your FF DSLR is good in high ISO performance, why do u still need a F2.8 lens ?

The only reason I can think of is shallower DOF. Other than that, I couldn't think of any other reason.

The next question would then be do people think that there would be issues if now higher ISOs and longer VR controls could help to solve problems in low light?

I would agree that in certain low light conditions, it would be more challenging.

My intentions using this lens is for portraits, street shooting and some events. My budget is $1800 max. I couldn't pay at one time so planning to usr CC instalment plan.
If I take 80-200mm f2f.8, there will be no VR system, right? Would there be any issue?
