But do becareful with those release before Jun 2004. Some batches have QC
problem. That may be the reasons why some users are complaining abt tinting and back-focus problem.

Care to elaborate or provide a link for that statement? I've haven't heard of any problems with QC or such with this particular lens (unlike the 24-120VR).. :dunno:

The kit lens sold with the F65 or even the F80 is the 28-80G F3.3-5.6. That is hell of a good lens in terms of sharpness, distortion, flare, coating. But it feels junk, looks junk.

Now, in digital domain, people feels the same way, a cheap give-away lens. I think it is gonna be very, very difficult to find any other lens twice the price that can perform almost as well. For those who go from film to digital, of course there is a drop in apparent sharpness becos of the 1.5x factor and the limited resolution, which have to be expected.

At all range? From 28 to 80, from f/3.3 to f/5.6 at every range, it's sharp, and uniform distoration with good flare control? :bigeyes: :bigeyes:

I really dun understand why people say this lens (18-70) is not sharp...if ever. I just got my lens today. While shooting randomly at my ceiling corners to look for the barelling and pincushion, I found something that I couldn't even see even when standing upright. I'm about 1.8m tall. My ceiling is about 2.5m. I was standing about 3 metres away when I started shooting the ceiling. When I was viewing my lcd and magnified the image, I saw something like ruffles of hair. It freaked me out. I thought my lens was crap. But then upon further look, and inspecting the ceiling...guess what it was? Cobweb!!!!!!. I couldn't even see it without getting really close to the ceiling. But the lens resolution captured it very clearly.
Sorry for the ultra long story.... But to those who says the lens is not sharp, go see an optician..or optometrist...whatever you call it

just in case, Gabriel, you plan to use it with a DSLR right? The 18-70 will vignet on a film camera.

Can someone please elaborate on these? Why would it vignet on a film body? Is it because of the 1.5X multiplication factor? Then again I dun really understand why there is this difference in the first place :dunno:

the area of a digital sensor is smaller than the area of a 35mm film.
DX lenses are designed to create a smaller image circle for digital sensors, which is too small to fill the entire area of a normal 35mm film, thus creating light loss in the corners of the film that the image circle didnt cover.
