Does the lens barrel creep slowly or pretty fast when tilted at about 45 degrees? I shot at 35mm, view the picture (lens tilted downwards) for 5~6 secs and the lens may be at >= 135mm... Is this normal?

For awhile, Lens Creep has been a known issue on this lens. I'm not entirely sure whether Nikon will rectify it FOC.

It did with the set I used to own.

Don't have the lens with me now. Will check for you after work.

As far as I know, active mode should only be used when panning. Otherwise, the VR should be set at normal.

Yeah, that's what the manual says also. But the one who sold it to me suggested differently based on his experience.

Nikon VR:
Normal - takes into account compensation for panning (compensate for 1 axis). Nikon advises to use this mode for normal handholding because most people shake up/down when handholding.
Active - doesn't compensate for panning. Use for eg. in a moving vehicle. (attempts to remove vibration on 2 axes)

That guy who sold you the lens told you he got better results using Active maybe because of his style of holding. Yours may differ. The best answer is to try both out for yourself and see which one gives you the better result.

base it on your own experience from now on then...

Yeah, i agree too. For my case, I find that "normal" mode works better and also drains the battery slower as compared to "active" mode.

1250+ should be w/o GST..
constantly no stock, tell u the place also no use...:)

Bought from OP after the GST rise at $1270. Heard my friend say the latest price there is $1250 with GST.

I hardly ever use mine in active mode - no problems so far

I tried just now, at 45 degree my lens do not creep at all.

I just got it for $1250 with GST (7%) from Lords around middle of July....! It happen to be out of stock (always) . I've waited 2 weeks for the lens !

Great lens for outdoor

Yep got mine from Lords too, James and Kelvin were very nice.

Hi Guys.

Personally I find that with VR set to active, I can take sharper pictures handheld at a slower shutter speed. Is it true..?

Was at MS Colours this afternoon. They have 3 x 18-200mms on reserved, and 2 stocks. $1280 cash and carry, throw in a 72mm filter (maybe is for me only?) So for those who are itching to get this lens, you'd know where to go! ;)

I bought mine for 1210 at D&G marketing ...the camera shop beside lords. The guy claims he has a lot leh, and they(together with lord's) seem to share the stock la..just be careful when the guy tries to sell you filters, best is dun buy from them.

Anyway TK Foto also have, 1260 when i asked last week. CP 1280. OP confirm is 1250 with international warranty btw, Alan photo(simlim) 1280.

Alan photo(funan), seriously a great example of why the sales ppl are crap, they happily quote me 1400+..lol

BTW, 1210 inc. GST!
