Nikon 1 vs m4/3 continued

I'm with the camp which supports the V1 due to the following reasons.

Nikon is smart in clearly segmenting the photography market, and targeting an emerging segment->the spending consumer wants to capture special moments in life without having much photography skills.
Do understand that with the vastly improving cameras in smartphones, it's no longer sufficient just to be pocketable. There needs to be reasons for people to bring their cameras out, and use a Nikon other than relying on their smartphones. This is of course, without going into the bulk of the DSLR. This explains the fast AF, 60 FPS, motion snapshot mode, Smart Photo selector, and other features which some pros consider unnecessary.

It's less about specs, but how a camera can enhance, and add value to people's lives.
--
The polls do little to state how successful the Nikon 1 will be, because the 'pros' aren't exactly the targets of this new line. Their comments are appreciated of course in evaluating the camera's quality, but as the bigger market of consumers catch on to what the Nikon 1 can do, more will be convinced.

I'd be interested to see how many people who laughed at the Four-Thirds sensor for its lack of surface area will buy Nikon 1 (or Pentax mirror-less) equipment.

I'm of the belief that most people who want small cameras may print a 4x6 on occasion but will most likely only share their photo files. My cousin's wife continues to tell me that she can't tell the difference in a professionally-taken photo over a point-and-shoot photo. I think she hasn't seen it performed properly.

I was reading the other day that people in the U.S.A. were very interested in the Nikon 1 system and I wonder if they're just a crowd of lemmings who would follow Nikon off a cliff, if the company led the way. I know from experience that many people will stay with a brand, no matter how bad their products have become.

I've not read the entire thread yet (and I do hope that I am neither the micro-parasite nor the giant insect - people often misinterpret my posts as being belligerent or aggressive.. :(( ), but I do hope to see side-by-side photo comparisons by someone who owns both an m43 and a 1-series - so that they're neutral. And I also hope to see it kit-lens against kit-lens. The panny 20mm doesn't give me very good results.. on the other hand the Oly 45mm is brilliant (but no OIS because Oly makes in-body IS)..

I'm seriously considering getting a 1-series to replace my m43. Only 2 things are stopping me: whether the IQ is really better (or at least as good) espy in low light, and whether it can autofocus on my AF-S lenses.

How long have you been using your micro Four-Thirds camera?

The one thing I see repeatedly is that people don't know the equipment well and when it doesn't give them the results they expect, they want to try something else. When that doesn't work any better...and so on.

I don't know your situation, but if you haven't really tried everything your current equipment can do, can you really judge it to be a problem? I'm asking because I've seen many cameras judged to be terrible produce amazing results and I've also seen people take amazing, expensive equipment and turn out horrible photos. Maybe, you're trying to do things the Nikon way and it's just not working?

Haha had it for several months. I'm not replacing it because it's bad (it isn't) but because the 1 series can use my nikkor lenses. Cheaper than investing in a set of m43 lenses. The panny 25mm for example is really expensive.

The 20mm kit lens is fine but doesn't look good compared with my oly 45mm. The oly is really crisp.

I suppose it could be cheaper to use your Nikkor lenses on a Nikon 1 series body, but will the results be worth it? I'm assuming that you want auto focus since there is a lens adapter for just about anything to micro Four-Thirds but many don't allow auto focus.

The micro Four-Thirds Panasonic/Leica 25mm is cheaper than the Four-Thirds version (which I have) but I suppose it does seem expensive and it has a few drawbacks from the reviews I've seen.

The latest lenses from Olympus (12mm and 45mm) seem to be great and I tried the Panasonic 8mm fish eye lately and think that and the 7-14mm would be better than competent but the price is up there.

I just have my doubts about whether the Nikon 1 series will compete in large prints. I'm sure it will be fine for most people at 4x6.

Strange that you say the 20/1.7 is not crisp. Are you talking about edge sharpness?

You won't get AF on the V1 with AF-S lenses. Don't see how a V1 will be better with AF-S lenses either.
Do your lenses have the optical resolution for the V1?
They would be big and clunky too.
Might as well get a NEX5n to use the AF-S lenses.

You replied to the wrong person. It was pbear1973 with the AF-S lenses. I don't have Nikon anything. ;)

Awesome! Combined with the sample photos in the other thread the Nikon 1 is starting to look really attractive!

Bousozoku (hope I spelt that right; iOS client cannot multiquote! Argh!): I will prolly just post to Flickr so large prints won't be an issue ba. And yea the Oly 45mm is awesome! Many of the Danang and Saigon photos in my Flickr stream were taken with that lens!

Pinholecam: Sorry sala my kit lens is 14mm, not 20. Smoked a bad batch of oregano when I posted :p. the kit pancake is just soft; can see vast difference when compared against my 45mm. What do you mean by optical resolution? Paisei I quite new to this :p

In any case the main thing is not to have to invest in new lenses that cannot be used with my dslr. I rather save up and buy a few exotic gold-ring nikkors.

Sure, I can understand. I only have 4 lenses because I value image quality. I think most of the lenses fall below what I would buy and Panasonic does in-body fixing to correct for their own lenses' flaws. Even the 25mm f/1.4 seems so much less than the full-sized Four-Thirds version and it's about half the price of that one.
