Nikon 1 J5

Finally got my Sandisk Extreme Pro MicroSDXC from amazon (Cheap deal at USD54.99 with free global shipping ~ http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NUB3530 )

Testing out the burst mode writing, I can feel the card at approximately 20% faster then the 60mbits microsdxc card. Its not a huge jump, but makes it pretty usable.

Nikon J5 with the 70-300cx.. Still waiting for RAW support on DXO Optics so i can clean up the darker areas of this image..

Include shipping?

Actually he mentioned free global shipping..

Sian... PC show only promoting J4... no J5 promotion...
I went to play around with the J5 in courts and noticed that there's a 1+sec delay for pic to appear on the LCD after taking the pic.
Dunno why, but this irritates me! All other similar cameras displays the image on LCD instantly after snapping.
Both this and the fact Nikon is not offering this to other camera shops (means fixed price and Courts' salesmen don't want to push Nikon. They rather sell Fujifilm), makes me want to really go for the Panasonic GF7. Plus Panasonic has more lens choices...

The 1+ sec delay is common within the Nikon 1 range, the camera only shows the photo after its saved. It doesn't bug me since this is a mirrorless camera with a WYSIWYG images. Its fixed price but you can bargain for more freebies. They gave me a larger microsd card when i got it. If the sales guy is pushing fujifilm, then you need to avoid the tampines courts. lol.

Haha, looks like you've been to the Tampines Courts too! Not a single freebie! Asking the salesperson a question is like asking him to move a mountain. Dunno anything.
Which Courts you bought from? Maybe give Nikon a second chance...
1+sec delay bugs me 'cos I want to take the next pic quickly like an DSLR.
Can you confirm if I can take the next pic even when the first pic have not appeared on the screen yet (In A or P modes)?
If so, maybe I can accept this...

My other choice:
Panasonic GF7
Alan Photo gives xtra batt on top of SD card as freebie for GF7 for <$599.
But the Pana has focus issues (sometimes focuses on background instead of object) or so I've seen on youtube review, but did not experience it while testing. I'm holding back unless bo bian.

Sony a5100 is excellent but has no manual dial...
a6100 to be launched soon: Worlds fastest focus camera (not necessary but a bonus). Has EVF, hotshoe, manual dial... no 4k video but I don't need that.
Dunno have 180deg tilting screen or not...But price may be too steep. I'm guessing in the $1.5k range...I could be wrong...

Thanks. Maybe can get a ssd from Amazon too. Can share the Courts pricing?

I hope Sony brings back the tri navi in one of its future cameras.

You can switch off the instant review. Actually as long as the [rXX] displayed, where XX is not zero, you can always keep shooting.

Finally read the Techradar review.
Looks like my question is answered in his review:
"I've already mentioned the buffer's effect on fast continuous shooting, but general operational speeds of the J5 can be frustratingly slow – once a shot's been taken, it takes a between half a second and a second for it to be displayed in preview, and the same time again before the camera is ready for next shot, thus making the shot to shot time distinctly slow. This is annoying if you're trying to take a series of photos in relatively quick succession."

Yeah, if you turn off instant review, that'll kind of solve the problem...
Thanks man!
So, which Courts salesperson is friendly and can give more freebies? I intend to get xtra batt.

Good luck finding extra batteries. Everywhere no stock. lol. I still waiting...

Called Nikon and they said stock prob coming in this month...tho no confirmed dates yet.
Do update us when you are able to get them.
Then maybe can try to bargain for xtra batt when buying cam.

Finally got my J5. Bought some DSTE batteries online...waiting to arrive. Hope it works.

Now looking for a prime lens...
I'm 'forced' to leave my DSLR behind and bring my Nikon 1 for my Paris trip end this month.
Which prime lens should I get to take nice Parisian pics (of course also with ourselves in it with selfie stick or tripod)?

CX format 10mm f/2.8 (equiv FX 27mm or DX 18mm) or CX 18.5mm f/1.8 (equiv FX 50mm or DX 35mm) ?

Hi, both the 10mm and 18.5mm are good. The best prime for CX is 32mm 1.2 but it is pricey and heavy, and equiv to 86mm (FX). If you love wide angle shots for travel, should seriously consider the 6.7-13mm. I love that lens.

For selfies there is no other choice. 10mm. 18.5mm not wide enough for selfies.

10mm is good but watch out for distortion.

18.5 slightly better.....

The kit lens is 10mm-30mm, barrel distortion is quite minimal at 10mm. Hopefully the 10mm prime is better. Ordered mine, going to collect soon...
I also plan to get the 18.5mm. Very hard to find white/silver. Big hole in pocket this month...

Anyway, I took some group pix side by side with my D7000 (APS-C sensor) on f2.8 lens, and the J5 does not lose out in IQ at all, even with kit lens.

One thing I hate is, if I turn on flash, the shutter speed automatically shifts to 1/60, even tho I set to other setting in manual mode.
I like to take outdoor pics with flash so that the face is lighted properly against bright background. But when it changes to 1/60 because I flip open the flash, whole pic is overexposed. I normally use 1/200 because kids move fast! There must be a way to overwrite this setting when flash is up?

Anyway, still love this cam...!
Got my selfie stick and sirui travel tripod, ready for Paris!

I have the nikon 1 6.7-13mm wide angle zoom and its amazingly fun for group selfies. Great for landscape shooting too. I find the image quality sharper then the 10/2.8. (Possibly coz its >f/4 when i shoot it, so lesser curvatures at the edge)

Was told Nikon SG is sending out the batteries for the J5 today, going to pick up mine today. 1 battery can be bit tricky for a whole day use.

I finally got my 'cheong' DSTE brand batteries for USD9 a piece from Aliexpress. It looks like higher capacity than original batt. Works well so far...fingers crossed.
Going to collect my 10mm/f2.8 tomorrow...will get the 18.5mm/f1.8 also if can find ready stock.
