1.4???!!!

If I see one I will definitely notify you, then I will bargain it down to $40 again, buy it, and sell my f/1.8 to you at $50.

Even at $500 it is still a good deal for the f/1.4, isn't it?

;)

Hey, I don't even mind if you profit US$100 out of a 85/1.4 at US$50. ;p

The original price is more than that of the AFnD 80-200/2.8D ED. So even at US$500, it's a steal. Great piece of glass. I tried Jed's when he was here and it was ..... WOW....

Hey, I told you to buy my AIS, but nooo... need AF... and don't use your d100 as an excuse cause you didn't have one yet then!

*sigh* If you have brought it over then, I might have just been tempted enough to pay you on the spot. heh.

Then again, I find MFing on a AF SLR a bit hard. No split screen. :p

I have been relying on the focus indicator when MFing on my F801s and now D1X.

Works very well for me.

I was. Sad to say it's been sold already.

 you had sold one of the best portrait lens.

Personally I don't see a great deal of difference between the AIS and the AF-D. I liked my AIS a great deal, I like the AF-D just as much.

that's right, actually no difference between its AIS and AF version, the optic is still the same. Both 85/1.4 AIS and 85/1.4 AFD are great portrait lenses, along with the legendary 105/2.5 AIS.

Of coz, AF makes things a lot easier on an AF camera.... I prefer MF-ing on a manual SLR with split screen rather than the electronic rangefinder which is quite overly sensitive. ;p

Strange, the AF version is IF whereas the AIS one is not.

In fact, now that I think about it, the filter threads are different as well. This doesn't necessarily mean that optically they are not the same, because sometimes camera manufacturers design oversized barrels, the 60 Micro being a case in point. But it's definitely suggestive.

And now that I've gone to look, you're right, there is no difference, the optic is the same. Except the AF version has 9 elements in 8 groups. And the AIS has 7 elements in 5 groups.

Actually there's a massive difference in the opitcal layout between the two lenses :)

The AIS 85/1.4 is 7 elements in 5 groups and has the CRC floating elmement for close focus.

The AFnD and AFD versions are 9 elements in 8 groups and is IF.

End results on a print are slightly different but it takes a real expert to tell them apart and frankly I've yet to see anyone who can tell them apart in a blind test.

so.. Nikon also change the optical layout? but frankly speaking, I didn't see any difference on the result of both lenses, probably my eyes are not good enough...
